Pakhwada on Elimination of Violence Against Women & Discrimination Against Women

Internal Complaint Committee (ICC), Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized Pakhwada on Elimination of Violence Against Women & Discrimination Against Women from 25/11/22 to 10/12/22 as per the UGC letter dated 22/11/22. It was an initiative of 15 days of activism concluded on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December).  Awareness Lectures on the topics Sexual harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, Role of ICC in HEIs, Gender Equality, Role and responsibilities of ICC has been successfully conducted by the ICC members by both online and offline mode through ICT tools in hostels, hospital and all the colleges of university and sensitize the students, teaching and non-teaching staff during the period. Awareness quiz on Prevention of Sexual Harassment was also conducted through Google form among the teachers , students and they all actively participated and one awareness video on Role of ICC was also circulated to sensitize the all.

On the last day of Pakhwada i.e, 10/12/22 Internal Complaint Committee(ICC) in association with Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a Seminar on the topic ‘Role of HEIs in Achieving Gender Equality’.

Programme started with the formation of dais and lamp lightening. Later Ms. Afreen Almas,Assistant Professor gave a welcome address to all dignitaries, HOIs, faculties, students and non-teaching staff.

Dr. Reena Bishnoi, Presiding Officer , ICC. Internal Complaint Committee, Swami Vivekanand  Subharti University highlighted the objectives of the programme.  The main objectives of this awareness programme is to generate awareness on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act-2013,Role of ICC in HEIs, Gender Equality.

Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goyal Bhartiya while highlighting the theme of the seminar said that for centuries the patriarchal society across the world has made men believe that they are special and its time to remove this gender based inequality . Apart from this, he also told about the Universal  Declaration on Human Rights that all these conventions advocate giving equal rights to women.

Chief guest of the program Dr. Usha Sawhney talking on women empowerment, it was said that if every person wants to empower women, then they have to start from their home first because if the woman is strong in the house then only then a healthy and aware society can be build. Prof.(Dr.)Vineeta Nikhil said in her address that today we are talking about women’s equality, but we also have to keep in mind that they should not misuse the rights that they are given. She also shared her experience of the problems in implementing the Act.Prof.(Dr.) Shalya Raj,CEO, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University said in her speech that if we talk about giving equal rights to women as men, then first of all women have to be proficient in self-defense. If women are proficient in self-defense, then only they will be able to stop any kind of violent behavior against them.Major General(Prof.) Dr. G.K. Thapliyal, Vice-Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand  Subharti University said in his presidential speech that women have been empowered since the Vedic period, but today we need to make women aware through sensitization programs on that subject, it is a thoughtful topic in itself. Justice Rajesh Chandra,Former Judge,High Court  Judicature at Prayagraj stated in his concluding remarks that if you see a woman in trouble, then do help her .

A large number of teaching, non teaching and students of the university attended the programme.Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Reena Bishnoi, Presiding Officer,ICC,SVSU.
