09 th Sardar Patel Subharti Moot Court Competition-2023

The main focused area of Moot Court Competition was – Right of homosexual couples to get married under Article 14 & 21 of the Indian Constitution and section 377 of Indian Penal Code.
Participants in the competition would engage in legal arguments and analysis regarding the right of homosexual couples to get married, to enjoy their rights as married couples, and scope of defamation, public interest, humanitarian grounds, and miscarriage of justice. They would explore various aspects, such as rights of life including the right to choose life partner and defamation from cyber sites.
The competition would provide an opportunity for students to delve into constitutional law, Indian Penal Code criminal justice, human rights, and the balance between executive clemency and the principles of justice.

Description:-  The Moot Court Association of 2023-2024 organized the 9th Sardar Patel Subharti Moot Court Competition. It was  held on 27th & 28th October 2023. This time there were two and three students forming a team. On 27/ October/ 2023 

  • Inauguration ceremony followed by Preliminary Rounds that was divided into two sessions
  • The stage management was done by Ms. Afreen Almas, Faculty Convenor (MCA)

The Judges for the Preliminary Rounds were

  1. Mr. Ashutosh Deshwal  
  2. Ms. Sonal Jain  
  3. Ms. Ana Sisodia  
  4. Ms. Shalini Goel
  • In the preliminary Round, 4 teams presented their arguments from the appellant side and 4  presented from respondents. For the Semi Finals, only 4 teams out of 8 qualified as per the  rules.
  • Researcher Test was also conducted at 3:15 pm at LT-3 On 28th October, 2023

The Judges for the Semi-Final Round were

  1. Ms. Ana Sisodia (Asst. Professor) & Dr. Prem Chandra (Associate Professor)  
  2. Mr. Ajay Raj Singh (Asst. Professor) & Ms. Sonal Jain (Asst. Professor)
  • In the Semi-Final Round, 4 teams presented their arguments from the appellant side and 2 presented from respondents. For the Final Round, 2 teams qualified.

The Judges for the Final Round were

  1. Justice Rajesh Chandra, Former Judge, High Court of Judicature at Prayagraj  
  2. Dr. D.P Semwal, Former Income Tax Commissioner 

The Winner of the Competition are

  1. Best Team: – Paramjeet Singh Hudda, Ankita Singh  
  2. Runner-Up Team: Palak Tyagi, Om Thakur, Navya  
  3. Best Mooter: –Ankita Singh 
  4. Best Researcher: – Ankita Singh 

 

  • A team of 11 volunteers worked as Court Masters and helped throughout the  Competition Court Masters/Volunteers- Prakriti, Akshdeep Kaur, Ishika  Chauhan, Aarti Goyal, Pawni Arora, Srishti Sirohi, Vikhyat, Kartik, Anshika,  Zoya Rao, Isha Tyagi
  • After the final rounds, the Valedictory Ceremony took place, where all the participants got certificates and  trophies as an Appreciation Award. After the Valedictory Ceremony, Judges of the event guided how mooters can work better on their presentation. They shared some landmark cases that were  involved in the Moot Problem.
  • After this, Mrs. Afreen Almas (Faculty Convenor of MCA) came for the vote of thanks & thanked all  the participants, volunteers, respected judges and all faculty members for their support.  At the time of Final Round and Valedictory Ceremony – 09 Faculties viewed the Competition and 18  students from all five years marked their presence for the same.
