A special lecture on the topic “Role of Media in Democracy and Dr. Ambedkar” was organized by Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of  Journalism and Mass Communication , Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. This lecture was organized under the monthly lecture series of Dr. Ambedkar Chair of the University. The objective of this lecture series is to underline the role of Dr. Ambedkar in the making of the Indian Constitution and to introduce today’s youth to the works of Dr. Ambedkar. This lecture was based on the role of the media in democracy and Dr. Ambedkar, in which the speakers presented their views with various facts.

The program started with the welcome of the guests, after which the keynote speaker and Chairman of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Chair, Major (Dr.) Deshraj Singh, while describing the journey of life of Dr. Ambedkar, said that Dr. Ambedkar was a brilliant student from childhood, but due to poverty and inequality, he had to face many difficulties in the initial period. It was the result of Dr. Ambedkar’s hard work and determination that he got the affection and guidance of his teachers so that he could move forward in his life. Addressing the students, Dr. Deshraj further said that for a successful democracy, it is very important to have media, especially unbiased media, which Ambedkar was a supporter of because he had an integral relationship with journalism.

Speaking in this lecture, guest speaker Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi detailed the life of Dr. Ambedkar as a journalist. Dr. Tripathi said that Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar believed that it is very important to have a strong media presence in any country to reach the public. Keeping this in mind, he started publishing his first newspaper named Mooknayak at the age of just 29. Dr. Tripathi further said that Dr. Ambedkar always carried forward the cause of the deprived and exploited society by giving voice to his pen, as a result of which we see that he published four different newspapers at different times.

Speaking as a special speaker in the lecture, Dr. Premchandra, Research Officer of Dr. Ambedkar Chair, enumerated the works of Babasaheb Ambedkar and said that the biggest contribution of Dr. Ambedkar as the President of the Constitution Drafting Committee was Article 19(1A). Under which we all have freedom of Speech and expression, and the media also has the power under this article, so that today the media is able to convey the government’s message to the public and the public’s message to the government.

In this sequence, Head of the Department, Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Thaledi said that the entire life of Dr. Ambedkar is ideal for building society and his life is inspirational. He was in favor of building a strong nation.

The coordinator of this program, Ram Prakash Tiwari, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, expressed his gratitude. The program was hosted by BAJMC student Manisha Kumari.

During this, Assistant Professor of the department Ram Prakash Tiwari, Dr. Preeti Singh, Madhur Sharma, Shaili Sharma, Dr. Durvesh Pundir, Principal of Shaheed Dhansingh Kotwal Inter College, Jurranpur, Dr. D.P Sharma along with students of the department were present.
