Visit to World Book Fair by Subharti Students

Students of the Department of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut visited the World Book Fair-2024, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on Wednesday 14th February.

The objective of which was to create interest in book reading habits among the mass communication students and develop their creativity. On this occasion students visited all the stalls of the book fair and bought their favorite books. During this, the students also reviewed various new books related to media. In the book fair, students participated in programs like book release, poetic symposia, conference and various other literary discussions. Media students also interviewed various writers from India and abroad who had come to the book fair.

This book fair is organized by National Book Trust, Government of India from 10 to 18 February with the theme “Multilingual India: A Living Tradition”, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. It was greatly appreciated by the students of mass communication. Expressing his love for books, Vishesh Sharma, a second year student of BAJMC said that this day was unforgettable for him as he visited the World Book Fair for the first time. Garima Pandey, first year student, said that by coming here, she got the opportunity to meet senior writers & poets and learn the intricacies of writing, which will not be forgotten throughout her life.

MJMC student Simran Srivastava recorded video interviews of many authors and publishers on this occasion. In which renowned writer Dr. Ramakant Sharma “Udbhrant”, Ramavatar Bairwa, Rita Suri, Gyanchand Bagri, young author Akriti Vigya “Arpan”, Dhartiputra etc were few of them. Students also met senior Nepali author & poet Chandra Gurung and discussed the current scenario of Nepali literature with him. Former Director General of All India Radio and Doordarshan and famous Hindi writer Leeladhar Mandloi explained the importance of writing to the journalism students and suggested that they also visit book fairs in future.

Overall, all the students described the book fair as a good event. On this occasion, Head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Thaledi said that students will develop the habit of reading books by visiting the book fair. Besides, awareness among students about books on various subjects will also increase.

This group of about 30 students was guided by department faculties Ram Prakash Tiwari, Madhur Sharma and research scholar Shikeb Majeed. Aman Sharma, Arpit, Palak Tandon, Vishesh Sharma, Bhumi Kumari, Sumaiya Imtiyaz, Vansh Chaudhry, Manisha, Anand, Monu, Appurva, Sugandhi, Teena, Anushka, Nitesh Tiwari, Anjali, Harshit, Garima, Simran Shrivastava were among the students who visited the book fair.
