Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Head of the department presented the welcome address and introduced the resource person. The resource person explained in detail the “Web based OPAC and its Features” and the way forward for cataloguing system in libraries. He further informed that an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) has revolutionized traditional accessibility to resources of libraries in general and academic libraries in particular. Traditionally, it is concerned with searching for and retrieving bibliographic records of information items instead of full-text of the content of resources. It has made searching and retrieval of bibliographic records of materials easier and faster.

The resource person of the day also highlighted Web OPAC stands for Web Online Public Access.

It is an online system that provides users with access to the library’s catalogue and allows them to search for resources, such as books, journals, DVDs, and other materials, from any internet-connected device.

Web OPACs have replaced traditional card catalogs and offer a more user-friendly and efficient way to locate and access library materials.

With a Web OPAC, users can perform keyword searches, browse by author, title, subject, or other search criteria, and view detailed information about each item, including availability, location, and call number. Some Web OPAC systems also provide additional features such as book covers, summaries, and user reviews to help users make informed decisions about the resources they choose. At the end of lecture the students got a chance to interact with him. Students expressed that the session was very much informative and interactive.
