EMERGING TRENDS IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

On June 7, 2024, the Department of Language, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Subharti University hosted a significant one-day workshop on “Emerging Trends in Intellectual Property Rights.” The event featured Professor Dr. Yameen Khan, Associate Professor of English at Department of English and Foreign Languages, SRM University, Modinagar, as the keynote speaker.

The program began with ceremonial lamp lighting in front of an image of Mother Saraswati. This ceremony was led by Dr. Yameen, along with Dean Prof. Dr. SudhirTyagi, Head of Department Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Rafat Khanam and Prof. Rajeshwar Chauhan.

In his introductory welcome speech, Prof. Dr. SudhirTyagi delivered lecture on the importance of Emerging Trends in Intellectual Property Rights. He focused upon the necessity for research to understand these rights and highlighted the importance of being aware of one’s own rights while respecting those of others.

As a token of our respect and gratitude, Prof. Dr. Sudhir, Dr. Seema Sharma and Dr. Rafat khanampresented a sapling to Dr. YameenKhan,which symbolizes growth, knowledge, and a bright future.

Dr. YameenKhan delivered an insightful and accessible explanation of intellectual property. Hetraced its history, beginning with George Alfred’s application in 1856 to protect his ideas in India, and discussed the evolution of these rights into law by 1970, coming into effect in 1972. He illustrated concepts such as copyrights and patents using numerous examples.

Dr. Rafat Khanam, Incharge of English and Foreign Languages, elaborated on the concept of plagiarism under copyright law and provided strategies to avoid it. She urged writers, research scholars, and literary figures to secure copyrights for their work, both online and offline.

Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of languages offered the formal vote of Thanks and encouraged faculty members and students to get copyrights of their literary works.

Dr. FarhaHashmiefficiently conducted the workshop, which was well-organized and effectively managed by the Language Department.

The workshop was attended by Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. SudhirTyagi, Department Head Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. RajeshwarChauhan, Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. ShobhaRaturi, Dr. ManishaLuthra, Dr. Yashpal, Dr. Ranveer Singh, Dr. Farah Hashmi, Dr. AnujBawara, Ms. Swati Sharma, along with Dr. Pallavi  and Dr. Surendra. Students from the Language and Library Science Departments were also present.
