Meerut, August 29, 2024 Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, hosted a vibrant series of promotional workshops on August 29, 2024, to introduce the newly launched French and Korean Language Certificate Courses organized by the Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the event aimed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of global languages. Supported by strategic partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with LeFrehindi and the IKBCC Foundation, this initiative underscores SVSU’s commitment to equipping its students with global communication skills, preparing them to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.

The day began with dynamic sessions engaging diverse audiences across the campus. The first session started promptly at 10:00 AM in the Yoga Hall, on the 2nd floor of the Subharti College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences in collaboration with Naturopathy and Pharmacy Colleges. The venue was filled with excitement and intellectual curiosity as students and faculty gathered to explore new linguistic horizons. These workshops provided a platform for enthusiastic engagement and cultural exchange, reinforcing the university’s role as a hub for promoting linguistic diversity and multiculturalism.

Dr. Rafat Khanam, In-Charge of English and Foreign Languages, inaugurated the event with a warm and inspiring welcome address, emphasizing the transformative power of learning new languages. She highlighted the importance of cross-cultural communication in today’s globalized society. Following her address, Prof. Dr. Abhay Shanker Gowda, Dean of Subharti College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Dr. Sokinder Singh, Dean of Pharmacy College, Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages extended a cordial welcome to the guest speakers, presenting them with plants and patkas, traditional symbols of respect, growth, and cultural continuity.

The first session featured two distinguished experts who captivated the audience with their passion and profound knowledge. Miss Shilpa Jain, an accomplished French language expert, led the French language session. With her deep understanding of French grammar, pronunciation, and cultural nuances, she transformed the classroom into an interactive and lively learning environment. Her engaging teaching style and ability to simplify complex concepts inspired participants to pursue the language with enthusiasm. Miss Jain’s session went beyond language instruction; it was an exploration of French culture, history, and social norms, providing a holistic perspective on the French-speaking world.

Simultaneously, Mr. Rahul Kumar, a distinguished facilitator of Korean linguistic and cultural studies, conducted the Korean language session. Renowned for his comprehensive knowledge of the Korean language and deep insights into Korean culture, Mr. Kumar’s session blended linguistic instruction with cultural narratives. He skillfully integrated linguistic concepts with cultural anecdotes, historical context, and contemporary relevance, fostering a profound appreciation for the intricacies of the Korean language. His methodical yet engaging approach made the session memorable for all involved.

Esteemed dignitaries further enriched the first session with their insightful remarks. Dr. Rafat Khanam spoke about the broader cultural and intellectual benefits of learning foreign languages, stating, “Studying languages like French and Korean open doors to understanding diverse cultures, fostering empathy, and building bridges between nations. These courses are not just academic offerings; they are tools for nurturing global citizens who can navigate the complexities of the modern world with sensitivity.” Her sentiments were echoed by Dr. Seema Sharma, who emphasized the strategic advantages of multilingualism in today’s global markets. Prof. Dr. Abhay Shanker Gowda highlighted the growing relevance of multilingualism in various professional fields, reinforcing the value of these courses in broadening students’ career prospects. Dean of Pharmacy, Dr. Sokinder Singh, also emphasized the significance of language skills in diverse work environments. Dr. Rafat Khanam finally, elaborated on the enrollment process, encouraging students to seize the opportunity to enhance their cultural literacy and communication skills.

After a brief interlude, the second session commenced at 11:30 AM in the Multipurpose Hall on the 6th floor of Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College in the collaboration with Nursing and Physiotherapy Colleges. This session primarily catered to students of Nursing and Physiotherapy, diversifying the audience and extending the workshops’ reach. Esteemed dignitaries Ms. Shilpa Jain and Mr. Rahul Kumar delivered insightful addresses on the practical benefits and potential impacts of the French and Korean Certificate Courses on the students’ academic and professional journeys.

Prof. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Prof. Geeta Parwanda, Dean of Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College; and Dr. Jasmine, Dean of Jyotirao Phule Subharti College of Physiotherapy, discussed the interdisciplinary advantages of linguistic proficiency in fields such as nursing, physiotherapy, technology, medical sciences, and social sciences. The session was further enriched by contributions from key coordinators of Nursing college Miss Sweta Devrari, Miss Limcy, and coordinator of Physiotherapy College Dr. Danish Nouman, who highlighted the relevance and application of language skills in diverse work environments. They shared experiences and insights on how linguistic diversity enhances professional performance and opens new avenues for collaboration and innovation.

The third session began at 2:00 PM in the Multipurpose Hall on the ground floor of Bhikaji Cama Subharti College of Hotel Management, in the collaboration of Hotel Management College. This session primarily targeted students of Hotel Management, further broadening the audience and expanding the workshops’ reach. Esteemed speakers Ms. Shilpa Jain and Mr. Rahul Kumar provided thought-provoking insights into the practical benefits and potential impact of the new courses on the students’ academic and professional development.

Prof. Shiv Mohan Verma , Dean of Bhikaji Cama Subharti College of Hotel Management explored the interdisciplinary advantages of linguistic proficiency across various fields. Dr. Indraneel Bose, the key coordinator, underscored the relevance and application of language skills in diverse work environments, sharing insights and experiences on how linguistic diversity can enhance professional performance and foster new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

Behind the scenes, the smooth execution of the workshops was a testament to the dedication and meticulous planning of faculty members, including Prof. Rajeshwar Pal, Dr. Yeshpal Sharma, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Ms. Swati Sharma, Dr. Ranveer, Dr. Ashish Dipankar, Dr. Anuj Bawara, Dr. Farha Hashmi, and Dr. Nishi Raghav. The invaluable contributions of volunteers from the Department of Languages, including Chhavi, Apurvi, Shikha, Priya, Prachi, Priyanshu, and Mayank, were also crucial, as they played key roles in coordinating logistics and assisting attendees.

All three sessions were hailed as resounding successes, embodying SVSU’s commitment to promoting linguistic diversity and fostering cultural understanding. The workshops not only enriched the university’s academic environment but also created a space for meaningful intercultural dialogue, inspiring students to become global citizens. The university anticipates that the enthusiasm generated during these workshops will lead to increased enrollment in its language certificate courses, further enriching the academic landscape and preparing students to thrive in a globalized world.

The promotional workshops for the French and Korean languages marked a significant step towards realizing SVSU’s vision of a culturally diverse and intellectually enriched campus.
