Three-Day Capacity Building Workshop

The IPR Cell (Research & Development Cell) of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, successfully organized a Three-Day Capacity Building Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights: Patents, Copyrights & Trademarks” from 05 to 07 February 2025, in collaboration with AKSH Associates, Noida, and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC).

The workshop was designed to create awareness and build practical competencies among faculty members and researchers regarding Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). The initiative aimed at strengthening research quality, promoting innovation, and fostering an innovation-friendly academic ecosystem across various colleges of the university. The workshop emphasized ON the importance of safeguarding intellectual assets and translating innovative ideas into legally protected outcomes. The 3 days workshop was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Lubhan Singh Additional Director Research who highlighted the growing importance of Intellectual Property Rights in strengthening research quality and fostering innovation-driven academic environments.

On the occasion, Ms. Monika, Co-founder, AKSH IP Associates, was felicitated by Dr. Aruna Bansal in recognition of her valuable contribution to IPR awareness and capacity building.

The technical sessions during the workshop were conducted by Ms. Monika, Co-founder, AKSH IP Associates, who delivered in-depth insights on patents, copyrights, trademarks, documentation, and filing procedures through interactive and practice-oriented discussions.

Day-wise Detailed Report

Day 1: IPR in Practice – Filing, Protection & Commercialization

Date: 05 February 2025

The first day of the workshop focused on establishing a strong foundational understanding of Intellectual Property Rights. The session began with an introduction to the concept of IPR and its relevance in academic research and innovation.

Key areas covered included:

  • Overview of patents, copyrights, and trademarks
  • Importance of protecting innovative ideas in academia
  • Understanding novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability
  • Role of IPR in commercialization and technology transfer

Participants were sensitized to how early-stage protection of research outputs can prevent misuse and enhance societal and economic impact. The session concluded with an interactive discussion where participants raised queries related to identifying patentable research and common challenges faced during the filing process.

Day 2: IPR Bootcamp – Awareness, Filing & Protection

Date: 06 February 2025

The second day was structured as an IPR bootcamp, emphasizing practical aspects of filing and protection. Participants were guided through the procedural framework of IPR registration in India.

Major highlights included:

  • Step-by-step guidance on patent and copyright filing procedures
  • Documentation requirements for IPR applications
  • Importance of plagiarism checking before filing
  • Common mistakes in IPR applications and strategies to avoid them

The session featured real-world examples and case studies, enabling participants to understand procedural nuances more effectively. The interactive Q&A session helped address individual concerns related to filing delays, rejection issues, and documentation errors.

Day 3: Advanced Practical Training on IPR – From Invention Disclosure to Grant

Date: 07 February 2025

The final day focused on advanced and practical training, covering the complete lifecycle of IPR—from invention disclosure to grant.

Key topics included:

  • Drafting of invention disclosure forms
  • Prior art search and analysis
  • Responding to examination reports
  • Managing granted IPRs and post-grant responsibilities
  • Strategies for maximizing innovation output through effective IPR management

Participants actively engaged in discussions related to resolving existing IPR issues and aligning research outcomes with institutional and national innovation goals. The session concluded with an open forum encouraging participants to share experiences and seek expert guidance.

Conclusion

The three-day capacity building workshop proved to be highly informative and impactful, reinforcing the university’s commitment towards research excellence, innovation protection, and intellectual property awareness. A total of 36 participants have attended the workshop. The initiative successfully empowered faculty members and researchers to safeguard their ideas and contribute meaningfully to the university’s innovation ecosystem. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Professor Dr. Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean – Research & Development, along with Dr. Nisha Rana, In-Charge, IPR Cell, who also served as the Coordinator of the event, acknowledging the speakers, participants, and organizing team for the successful conduct of the programme.
