“Advancing Academic Integrity and Turnitin.”
The Department of Library and Information Science, in collaboration with the Research and Development Cell, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized a one-day training programme on “Advancing Academic Integrity and Turnitin” on July, 21st, 2026. The program was designed with the objective of promoting a robust culture of academic integrity within the university and sensitizing teachers, research scholars, and students towards the menace of plagiarism. It further aimed to encourage ethical values in academic writing and to familiarize participants with the effective use of Turnitin software as a tool for ensuring originality in scholarly work.
The program commenced with a formal welcome address extended to the chief guest by Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He emphasized that maintaining the quality of higher education and research in the present era necessitates unwavering commitment to academic integrity, and noted that the training would play a vital role in encouraging participants to become responsible and ethical research writers while simultaneously fostering high-quality research within the institution.
The resource person for the session, Mr. Gautam Rawal, elaborated that Turnitin is not merely a similarity-checking instrument but also serves as a valuable aid for researchers and teachers in improving academic writing, adopting proper citation practices, and following correct referencing methodology.
Dr. Vaibhav Goyal Bhartiya, Dean, Research & Development Cell, further remarked that academic integrity and originality form the very foundation of high-quality research, and that modern tools such as Turnitin assist researchers and teachers not only in avoiding plagiarism but also in strengthening a culture of responsible and ethical research, thereby providing new direction to the university’s research quality and academic excellence.
Ms. Bhavna Joshi extended a formal vote of thanks to the chief guest and all participants. The program was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty members from various departments, Dr. Tarak Nath Prasad, Dr. Anoj Raj, Dr. Indra Singh, Dr. Javed Khan, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Dr. Alpana, Ms. Shalini Tyagi, Ms. Bhavna Joshi, Dr. Kiran, Dr. Juli, Dr. Kapil, Dr. Ajay, Dr. Preeti, Dr. Sarita, Dr. Ashutosh, Ms. Ratni, Ms. Gomti, along with students from multiple departments.
The training program concluded on a highly positive note, with all participants describing it as an extremely useful and enriching experience. They unanimously expressed the hope that similar academic training programs would continue to be organized by the university in the future. On the whole, the programme was regarded as a resounding success, and it received widespread appreciation from all attendees for its contribution to strengthening academic integrity and research ethics at the university.
