On the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, observed nationwide as National Youth Day, a distinguished delegation from Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, visited the Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi, to participate in Yuva Mela 2026, themed “Celebrating the Power of Youth.”
The visit was organized by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) under the able supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, SVSU, Meerut. The delegation was led by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Pramod Kumar Sharma, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Dr. Monika Mehrotra, Professor and Convener, Swami Vivekanand Chair, who participated as the Special Guest.
Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar Sharma (VC) has delivered an inspiring address on “Character, Courage, and Compassion: Vivekananda’s Call to the Youth.” He emphasized that Swami Vivekananda envisioned youth as the moral and spiritual backbone of the nation. He stated that true education must build character, instill courage to face challenges with integrity, and nurture compassion to serve society selflessly. He urged students to internalize these values in their personal and professional lives, asserting that a nation’s progress depends upon ethically grounded and socially responsible youth.
In her special address, Prof. (Dr.) Monika Mehrotra presented a comprehensive overview of the Swami Vivekanand Chair and Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, highlighting the University’s academic vision, multidisciplinary framework, and strong commitment to holistic education rooted in Indian ethos and enriched by global perspectives. She emphasized the institution’s continuous efforts to promote intellectual excellence in harmony with moral and ethical values, and reaffirmed its resolve to nurture socially responsible, self-reliant, and empowered youth in alignment with the timeless ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
The delegation comprised 50 students and 4 faculty members, namely Dr. Kiran Rani Panwar, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts & Humanities; Mr. Kapil Kumar, Department of Liberal Arts & Humanities; Mr. Ram Prakash Tiwari, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication; and Dr. Preeti Sharma, Department of Language. Their participation reflected the University’s strong commitment to youth engagement, value-based education, and national service.
The participation of the University delegation in Yuva Mela 2026 provided students with a meaningful opportunity to engage with the life, philosophy, and enduring message of Swami Vivekananda, while interacting with youth from diverse institutions across the country. The visit proved to be deeply enriching and inspirational, strengthening the resolve of the participants to contribute positively to society and the nation.
The event concluded with collective reflections on youth leadership, national development, and the timeless relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s ideals in contemporary times.
