Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, successfully organized a three-day induction programme “Deeksharambh” from September 18 to 20, 2025. Dr. Rafat Khanam coordinated the program with the aim to familiarize students with the University’s academic environment, promote holistic development, and highlight the importance of social responsibility, ethics, and well-being. It created opportunities for new students to interact with faculty, administrative staff, and peers while gaining awareness of their academic responsibilities, rights, and future opportunities.
The inaugural session opened with traditional rituals, where students were welcomed with tilak and lamp-lighting before the idol of Goddess Saraswati. The ceremony, filled with cultural and spiritual significance, symbolized wisdom, enlightenment, and the start of a meaningful academic journey. The event was hosted by Samya Siddique and Kanishka Gautam, B.A. English Hons students who shared their own experiences as senior students, inspiring the newcomers to embrace university life with confidence and determination.
Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Languages, addressed the gathering and warmly welcomed the students. She emphasized the importance of discipline, dedication, and holistic growth in higher education. An interactive session by faculty members was followed to encourage the students to share their interests and academic aspirations.
Dr. Nisha Singh, Senior Proctor and Member Secretary, Anti-Ragging Committee, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the legal, psychological, and social impacts of ragging. She highlighted the University’s zero-tolerance policy and stressed that mutual respect and cooperation are essential for creating a safe academic environment.
This was followed by Dr. Sarika Abhay, Convener, Gender Sensitization Committee, who spoke about gender equality and awareness. Dr. Shweta Bhardwaj, Secretary, Disaster Management Committee and Member, Dean Student Welfare sensitized students on disaster preparedness and welfare initiatives. Dr. Rafat Khanam introduced students to the university authorities, committees and overall structure of the University. Dr. Ashish Kumar guided students through the internal assessment and examination system.
A vibrant Talent Hunt by Ms. Soni Chauhan and Ms. Bhavna Joshi showcased the creativity of the freshers, followed by a special yoga and wellness session by Dr. Nishi Raghav, Dr, Ranveer singh, Mr. Ankit and conducted by Dr. Neeraj from the Department of Naturopathy. Students practiced asanas, pranayama, and meditation, and learned about the scientific benefits of yoga for concentration, stress management, and overall well-being.
The induction programme was coordinated by Dr. Rafat Khanam, In-Charge of English and Foreign Languages, who stated:
“Diksharambh is not only an academic Induction but a platform to instill values of responsibility, confidence, and cooperation among our students. The Department of Languages is committed to nurturing holistic personalities who will excel both academically and socially.”
The programme witnessed the gracious presence of Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Rajeshwar Pal, Dr. Nishi Raghav, Dr. Ashish Kumar, Dr. Preeti Sharma, Dr. Abhijit Sharma, Dr. Ranvir Singh, Mr. Ankit, Ms. Sania, Ms. Soni, Ms. Bhavna, and Dr. Swati, whose support and guidance enriched the sessions.
Bhumi, Samiya, Kanishka, Priyanshu, Khushi and Lalrosangi, Vidhi Chauhan were the student coordinator and Jiya, Chhavi, Anushka, Aryan, Yashika, Arya, Sharik, Shivansh, mann Chaudhary, Anshu kumar etc actively participated in the program.
The three-day programme concluded on a positive note, with faculty and students expressing enthusiasm for the academic journey ahead. The event ended with a collective message:
“Education is not only about acquiring knowledge but also about cultivating values, discipline, and social responsibility. Together, we shall build a respectful, inclusive, and inspiring academic environment at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University.”
