International Day against
Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by NSS Cell
National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Meerut organized a guest lecture on ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’. The lecture was organized under the joint aegis of National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell and Subharti Dental College. Professor (Dr.) Rahul Bansal, Chairman of Subharti Wellness Center delivered the lecture. Speaking at the program, Dr. Rahul Bansal said that the problem of drug abuse is posing a challenge today which is affecting the lives of millions of people around the world. People are suffering from many disorders due to drug abuse. There is a need to take effective steps at the global level on drug trafficking and organized crime.
Dr. Bansal said that youth power can play a special role in this direction and drug addicts should be brought back to the mainstream by treating them sweetly. He said that today the tendency of drug addiction is being seen in women too, which is worrying. This causes double loss to society. Dr. Bansal said that today, according to the survey, one out of every seventeen people has become a drug addict, which is very important to draw attention. He also suggested to the parents of the youth to maintain communication with their children and give them good values.
Dr. Rahul Bansal said that meditation is very helpful in removing the evil habit of drug addiction. It develops the self-confidence and inner strength of a person. Dr. Bansal said that such a display should not be shown in films and cinema which promotes the habit of drug addiction. He further said that the world community will have to come forward to deal with this. He said that various communities also need to be included in the campaign against drug addiction.
During this, the program coordinator of NSS Cell, Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Thaledi, while telling the youth about NSS, said that this scheme is run by the state government with the courtesy of the Ministry of Youth Welfare and Sports, Government of India. Which develops a sense of community among the youth as well as promotes programs of national and international importance.
On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal and Chief Executive Officer Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj said in a message that empowering the youth to prevent drug abuse is the resolve of the university.
In the program, the youth were also administered the pledge against drug abuse prescribed by the Narcotics Control Bureau, Government of India and all the participants strengthened their resolve against drug abuse by taking the e-pledge. In the program, certificates were given to the volunteers who donated blood in the voluntary blood donation camp organized earlier on World Blood Donor Day by the NSS Cell.
The program was started by welcoming the guests by the Associate Professor of Dental College and Head of the Department of Public Dentistry, Dr. Sanchit Pradhan. The program was conducted by the Program Officer of Unit-1 of NSS and Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication Department, Ram Prakash Tiwari. During this, Prof. (Dr.) Vinita Nikhil, Dental College, NSS Program Officer Shivani Bhadoria, Dr. Dhananjay Srivastava, Madhur Sharma, Shikeb Majeed, Dr. Supurna Pandit, Dr. Abhijit K.B., Swati Sharma, Pushpendra Kumar, Abhilasha Garg, Websumi Singh, Engr. Rahul Kumar and Kapil Gill along with hundreds of students were present.
