Department of Physical Education and Women Empowerment Cell Organise “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” Health Walk/Run at SVSU

The Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, in association with the Women Empowerment Cell, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, organised a Health Walk/Run titled “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” on 4 October 2026, under the theme “Step Up, Stay Addiction-Free.” The event was conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, and aligned with the MY Bharat and Viksit Bharat initiatives, with the objective of spreading awareness among the youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse and inspiring them to adopt a healthier, addiction-free lifestyle.
The programme commenced at the Faculty of Education building, where students, faculty members and officers of the University assembled in large numbers before the start of the Walk/Run. From there, participants proceeded across the university campus, carrying placards and banners with messages on the theme “Walk for Health, Run for a Drug-Free India,” reinforcing the day’s call to action against substance abuse.
The Walk/Run was formally flagged off by Dr. Pintu Mishra, Dean, Faculty of Education. Addressing the gathering prior to the flag-off, Dr. Munish Reddy, Pro Vice-Chancellor, spoke to the students about the growing menace of drug and substance abuse among the youth and urged them to stay committed to a disciplined, health-focused lifestyle as active contributors to a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). Prof. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Applied Social Sciences (FASS), administered a collective pledge to the assembled students and staff, committing to remain free from substance abuse and to spread awareness of its ill effects within their communities.
Dr. Mukesh Ruhela and Dr. Anoj Raj, Head, Department of Education, also addressed the participants, emphasising the role of educational institutions in shaping a drug-free generation and highlighting the importance of sustained awareness drives of this nature on campus. Dr. Shashiraj Tewatia, Chief Proctor, was present throughout the programme and oversaw discipline and crowd coordination during the Walk/Run.
The event was organised under the overall coordination of Dr. Manju Adhikari, Associate Professor and Nodal Officer, NSS, who was entrusted with making the necessary arrangements for the programme, together with Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Associate Professor, and Dr. Preeti Singh, Assistant Professor, who coordinated various aspects of the event. Members of the Women Empowerment Cell and faculty of the Department of Physical Education were actively engaged in organising and managing the proceedings, ensuring the smooth and disciplined conduct of the Walk/Run across the campus.
The Health Walk/Run witnessed enthusiastic participation from the University community, with around 230 students from various departments and approximately 47 faculty members across departments taking part. The large turnout reflected the collective commitment of the University towards youth health, wellness and social responsibility.
The event reaffirmed SVSU’s continuing commitment to the national vision of a healthy and addiction-free youth as a foundation for a stronger, more developed India, and underscored the role of the Department of Physical Education and the Women Empowerment Cell in advancing awareness, wellness and inclusive community engagement on campus.
