National Librarian’s Day was celebrated at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University on August 12th, 2025, to honor Dr. S.R. Ranganathan’s birth anniversary and his foundational contributions to Library Science. The event aimed to educate participants about his legacy and demonstrate the continued relevance of his principles in today’s digital information landscape.

The celebration began with a tribute ceremony where Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, along with faculty and staff, garlanded Dr. Ranganathan’s portrait and lit a ceremonial lamp. The main event was a seminar titled “Dr. S.R. Ranganathan’s Legacy in Information Organization: Relevance in the Digital Age.” Dr. Sudhir Tyagi delivered the welcome address, highlighting Dr. Ranganathan’s achievements and his transformative impact on Indian library systems. He emphasized how the five laws of library science remain fundamental in modern information management and drew parallels between Ranganathan’s concepts and contemporary technologies like AI-powered search engines and recommendation systems.

Dr. Javed Khan and Dr. Sapna Sharma contributed to discussions on Ranganathan’s lasting impact on library methodology and the timeless nature of information organization principles. Ms. Bhavna Joshi coordinated the program, which also featured creative expressions including speeches and poetry by faculty, staff, and students.

The celebration achieved exceptional attendance and created a rich learning environment that bridged theory with practice. Participants gained deeper appreciation for Ranganathan’s continued relevance in the digital age, while students expressed increased interest in applying his methodologies. The event strengthened institutional identity and received positive feedback, establishing a strong foundation for becoming an annual tradition.
