Swami Vivekanand Research Chair Associated with Department of Fine Arts

Swami Vivekananda’s teachings have long been a source of inspiration for the youth, guiding them towards self-confidence, excellence, and service to humanity. In an effort to promote his vision and encourage artistic expression among students, the Swami Vivekananda Research Chair at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, in collaboration with the Fine Arts Department, organized a painting competition on 18th February 2025. The competition aimed to emphasize the role of youth in nation-building through the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.

Objectives

  • To create awareness among students about Swami Vivekananda’s teachings.
  • To foster creativity and artistic expression on youth empowerment.
  • To provide a platform for students to showcase their talent and ideas.
  • To inspire students towards self-confidence, leadership, and service to society.

 

Event Highlights

The competition was inaugurated by the chief guest, renowned painter Rajneesh Kumar from Delhi, along with esteemed guests including artist Anupam Pathak, Dr. Monika Mehrotra (Convener , Swami Vivekananda Research Chair),along with  Colonel Rajesh Tyagi, Dr. Manoj Kapil, Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dr. Pintu Mishra, Alisha Mehrotra, Durvesh Kumar Rana, Vandana Tomar, and others. The event commenced with floral tributes to the statue of Swami Vivekananda.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 95 students representing various faculties and departments. Each participant showcased their interpretation of Swami Vivekanand’s ideals through their artwork. Some students illustrated his historic Chicago speech, while others depicted him in meditation.

Competition Categories

To ensure fair competition and broad participation, students were categorized into:

  1. Students under 16 years
  2. Students above 16 years
  3. Fine Arts Department students
  4. Other faculty and department students

 

Themes for the Competition

Participants were given the following themes:

  1. “Arise, Awake, and Stop Not” – The Call for Youth Empowerment
  2. “Strength, Character, and Service – The Youth of Swami Vivekananda’s Vision”
  3. “Universal Brotherhood and Youth – Building a Harmonious Future”
  4. “From Fear to Fearlessness – Youth as the Pillars of a Strong Nation”
  5. “Education and Self-Realization – The Path to Success”

The painting competition successfully provided a creative platform for students to engage with the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda.
