From Campus to Government Service: Alumni Guest Lecture Inspires Physical Education Students Towards Competitive Careers

 The Department of Physical Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized an Alumni Guest Lecture on “Preparing Students for Competitive Careers in Sports and Physical Education” at the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Education, commencing at 10:00 AM. The event was organized to honour and felicitate Mr. Gaurav Sirohi, an alumnus of the MPEd 2022–2023 batch, who recently achieved remarkable success by securing a government job as a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) in Physical Education under the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission. The programme began with Dr. Manju Adhikari, Head, Department of Physical Education, formally welcoming the resource person and all faculty members present, expressing pride in the achievement of the department’s former student and highlighting it as a source of motivation for current students aspiring towards similar career paths. During the interactive session, Mr. Gaurav Sirohi addressed a wide range of queries raised by students regarding the process of securing government employment in the field of Physical Education, sharing practical guidance on examination patterns, preparation strategies, and the mindset required to succeed in competitive selections. He elaborated extensively on the diverse career opportunities available to Physical Education graduates within the government sector, including positions such as TGT and PGT Physical Education Teacher in government and government-aided schools, Director of Physical Education (DPE) in colleges and universities, Sports Officer in state and central government departments, Coach and Sports Officer under the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Physical Training Instructor roles in the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Paramilitary Forces such as CRPF and BSF, opportunities under the Railways Sports Promotion Board, positions in State Sports Departments and District Sports Offices, roles linked to the Khelo India Scheme, and coaching assignments through the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala. He further encouraged students to consider opportunities in NCC, sports quota recruitment across various government organizations, and academic positions in physical education at the school and higher education levels. The event witnessed the enthusiastic presence of faculty members including Dr. Manju Adhikari, Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dr. Deepak Raghav, Dr. Nishant Kumar, Dr. Atul Kumar Tiwari, Dr. Ankit Singh Jadon, Mr. Sharad Panwar, Ms. Deepanshu Choudhary, Mr. Shubham Rathi, and Mr. Sartaz Khan, along with a large number of students from BPES, BPEd, MPEd, and MA Yoga programmes, who actively participated in the session and engaged with the resource person to clarify their doubts regarding future career pathways. The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Sanjith TK, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Gaurav Sirohi for returning to his alma mater to guide and inspire the current batch of students, to Dr. Manju Adhikari and all faculty members for their valuable presence and support, and to all the students for their active participation, thereby bringing the alumni guest lecture to a successful and inspiring close.
