Guided by the sacred thought, “Yatra Naryastu Pujyante, Ramante Tatra Devata” – meaning “Where women are worshipped, there the gods dwell” – the Women Empowerment Committee of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University successfully organized a One-Day Self-Defence Workshop on 18th September 2025.
The primary objective of the workshop was to empower women mentally, physically, and emotionally, enabling them to protect themselves in emergency situations and move forward in life with confidence and strength. The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 150 female faculty members and non-teaching women staff from the university and affiliated colleges.
The program commenced with the invocation of Goddess Saraswati and ceremonial lamp lighting. On this occasion, Hon’ble Chief Guest Dr. Shalya Raj, CEO of the university, addressed the gathering with an inspiring message. She emphasized that women’s safety, education, and self-reliance form the foundation of a progressive society. While acknowledging that women are inherently powerful, she stated that such workshops are essential to further strengthen their confidence and self-dependence.
Dr. Anshul Trivedi, Chairperson of the Women Empowerment Committee, motivated all the participants to move ahead in life with inner strength and self-belief. She expressed that “every woman possesses immense potential within – the key lies in recognizing and refining it.” She assured that more impactful and enriching programs would be conducted in the future and appreciated the active participation of all attendees.
Lt. Professor Sandeep Kumar, Director of Sports and Dean, Faculty of Education, in his motivational address, highlighted that women have always been powerful since ancient times. Referring to historical figures like Rani Lakshmibai, he emphasized that “today’s women must realize their inherent powers and utilize them in the right direction. Only then will they achieve true empowerment and success in the future.”
The workshop was led by Ms. Shagun, an expert self-defence trainer, who provided practical training in various self-defence techniques applicable in real-life emergency situations. The participants not only gained technical knowledge but also experienced a renewed sense of courage and self-confidence through hands-on practice.
The workshop was coordinated and smoothly conducted by Dr. Manju Adhikari, Secretary of the Women Empowerment Committee and Event Coordinator. In her vote of thanks, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, guests, and contributors for their valuable presence and for making the event a grand success.
The active involvement of committee members – Dr. Aruna, Dr. Raft Khan, and Dr. Rakhi Jha – also played a vital role in shaping the structure and flow of the event. The presence and participation of all Deans and Heads of Departments from the university further added to the dignity and impact of the event.
This workshop stands as a strong testament to the university’s unwavering commitment toward women’s empowerment, safety, and self-reliance, which remain among its highest priorities.
