As per the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Government, National Service Scheme Cell of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a workshop on Road Safety Awareness under Road Safety Fortnight. In this workshop, Meerut Traffic Police In-charge Vinay Kumar Shahi and Senior ARTO Rajesh Kumar Kardam alongwith Secretary of Mishika Society for Traffic Awareness Sunil Kumar Sharma were the keynote speakers.

The program was started traditionally by lighting the lamp. Welcoming the guests, NSS Program Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Thaledi said that spreading awareness about road safety has become a very important demand of today’s time, because today both educated and uneducated people are driving on the road without paying attention to safety. In such a situation, this workshop has been organized to create awareness on important topics like road safety among NSS volunteers and university students, teachers and non-teaching staff.

Speaking at this workshop, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Secretary of Mishika Society, told the people present about various signs related to road safety. Apart from this, Sharma emphasized on promoting the use of helmets made as per BIS standards for two-wheeler drivers and riders. Along with this, he told the volunteers that you should make it a habit that whenever traveling in a four-wheeler, everyone should use seat belts so that more damage can be avoided at the time of accident.

Speaking at the workshop, Senior ARTO (Enforcement) of Meerut, Rajesh Kumar Kardam told the students and volunteers about the fines and penalties imposed by the traffic police for violating the rules of road safety. He said that we should not break the law under any circumstances. If we drive against the rules, we will put our lives as well as the lives of others in danger.

In his presidential speech in the last session of the workshop, the keynote speaker Vinay Kumar Shahi requested everyone to follow the traffic rules while driving and cooperate with the traffic police so that this city can be made a safe city for road users. He said that whenever you see any kind of accident on the road, immediately inform the nearest policeman and take the injured person to the nearest hospital so that he can get timely medical help and his life can be saved because in today’s time people are forgetting humanity in the pursuit of making videos and every year thousands of people are losing their lives in road accidents due to this reason. Apart from this, Shahi said that if you help any person injured in a road accident and take him to the hospital or inform the nearest policeman, then you will not be harassed by the police or the hospital in any way.
