On 10th September 2026, a World Suicide Prevention Day Awareness Programme was organized at District Pyare Lal Sharma Hospital by Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College, SVSU. The programme was organized in accordance with the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” and the message “Start the Conversation.” The main objective of the programme was to create awareness regarding suicide prevention, promote mental well-being, encourage early identification of emotional distress and warning signs, reduce stigma associated with mental health concerns, and emphasize the importance of open, empathetic and supportive communication.

Students of M.Sc. Nursing 1st Year, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing 2nd Year and B.Sc. Nursing 8th Semester actively participated in the awareness programme. As part of the activity, the students presented an informative Nukkad Natak highlighting the importance of mental health, recognition of warning signs, emotional support, timely help-seeking and the role of communication in suicide prevention. The students also provided health education to patients, attendants, hospital staff and other participants regarding suicide prevention and mental health awareness. They emphasized the importance of listening without judgement, initiating conversations about emotional difficulties, providing emotional support and encouraging individuals experiencing distress to seek timely professional help.

Dr. Vinita, Clinical Psychologist and Dr. Vibha Nagar, Social Worker, Clinical Psychologist,  also addressed the gathering and shared valuable information regarding suicide prevention, mental well-being, early recognition of warning signs and appropriate support for individuals experiencing emotional distress. Approximately 100 people, including patients, attendants and hospital staff, benefited from the programme. The activity successfully conveyed the message that suicide prevention requires awareness, empathy, open communication and collective responsibility. The programme also provided nursing students with an opportunity to actively participate in a mental-health awareness initiative and contribute towards creating a supportive and compassionate environment for suicide prevention. The programme was conducted under the guidance and direction of Dr. Geeta Parwanda, Dean & Principal, Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College, who motivated and guided the students and provided overall direction for the successful conduct of the programme.
