Department of Physical Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Meerut Organizes Yoga Mahotsav to Celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga

June 16, 2026: The Department of Physical Education at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University commenced a week-long Yoga Mahotsav from June 16 to June 21, 2026 in observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga. The event is being organized around the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” highlighting the importance of yoga in promoting lifelong health, vitality and well-being.

The inaugural session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, teaching staff and non-teaching staff of the University. Participants practiced a variety of yoga asanas, pranayama techniques and meditation exercises aimed at enhancing physical fitness, mental focus and emotional wellness. The programme also emphasized the significance of yoga in maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

The Yoga Mahotsav is being organized under the guidance of Dr. Manju Adhikari, Head of the Department of Physical Education. The opening session was conducted by Dr. Nishant, who demonstrated different yogic practices and explained their benefits for physical and mental health. His interactive session motivated participants to incorporate yoga into their daily routine.

The programme was successfully coordinated through the dedicated efforts of the faculty members of the Department of Physical Education, including Dr. Parveen Kumar, Dr. Atul Tiwari, Dr. Nishant, Mr. Shubham Rathi, Mr. Sharadh Panwar and Mr. Sanjith T. K.

The Department expressed its sincere gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, Chief Executive Officer, for her continued support in promoting health and wellness initiatives. Appreciation was also extended to Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, for his guidance and encouragement.

The celebrations will continue throughout the week with yoga sessions, wellness activities and awareness programmes leading up to the International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2026. Through this initiative, the Department of Physical Education reaffirms its commitment to promoting healthy living, mindfulness and holistic development among the university community.
