Rani Abbakka Chowta’s Balidaan Diwas

Kharvel Subharti College of Pharmacy celebrated ‘RANI ABBAKKA CHOWTA’S BALIDAAN DIWA’S on 15th February 2022. Rani Abbakka Chowta was the first Tuluva Queen of Ullal who fought the Portuguese in the latter half of the 16th century. She belonged to the Chowta dynasty and ruled over parts of coastal Karnataka (Tulu Nadu), India. The Portuguese made several attempts to capture Ullal as it was strategically placed. But Abbakka repulsed each of their attacks for over four decades. For her bravery, she came to be known as Abhaya Rani (The fearless queen). She was also one of the earliest Indians to fight colonialism and is sometimes regarded as the ‘first woman freedom fighter of India. On this occasion, KSCP has organized some programs for the remembrance of our freedom fighter Rani Abbakka Chowta’s contribution to the nation. The Sanskriti department of Subharti University organized a lecture to remember her contribution on 14th February. On 15th February, the inauguration ceremony was held, followed by a briefing of irreplaceable contributions of Rani Abbakka Chowta by Mr. Vishal Kumar Biswkarma, Assistant professor (Department of Pharmacology) KSCP. Other events like Rangoli making, online essay writing, e-quiz, online self-composed poetry, and online photography competitions were organized. Students from various colleges of the Subharti University enthusiastically took part in these events and made this event even more remarkable.  In the Rangoli making competition, the first and second prize was won by Physiotherapy College, Pharmacy College respectively. All the students and faculty actively participated and contributed to the conduction of this successful event. E- certificates were also issued to all the participants as a token of appreciation.
