IP Challenges in Engineering, Science and Technology-Advanced Concepts

Keral Verma Subharti College of Science in Association with IQAC and URC SVS University Meerut organized an online one-day National Seminar on the “IP Challenges in Engineering, Science and Technology-Advanced Concepts”.
Dean KVSCOS, warmly welcomed the resource person and also invoked the Divine for the benign grace for the grand success of this online webinar. He encourage the faculty members and other participants of the seminar.
Event Coordinator Dr Nisha welcomed the resource person and congratulate the organizer to organizing the event.
The resource person invited at the online seminar Varun Paul, Science Policy Officer, Directorate of Innovations, Projects and Consultancy (IPC), SHUATS, Allahabad and Joohi Srivastava Intellectual Property Development Officer, In Directorate of Innovation, Projects and Consultancy, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences. The resource person Joohi Srivastava presented her topic and discuss about What is patent, what are Patent Rights, what is an Invention, Basic criteria of patentability, etc. Furthe she discussed about the law relating to intellectual property rights balances two divergent interests – provision of protection to “creativity” and “innovations” on the one hand and globalization and liberation of the world, including knowledge on the other hand.“Creativity” which is the raison d’etre of the law of intellectual property rights, cannot be restricted to any strait-jacket formula rather it is susceptible to infinite applications. Creative intelligence is the ability to frame problems in new ways and providing innovative and original solutions to the problems. IPRs have the objective of benefitting society by providing incentives to new inventions and creations. Varun Paul, discussed the topic from its historical significance, the issues of the relationship of IPRs with trade and investment, the nature of the IPRs as an intangible assets which can be owned by a person or entity and which is required to be protected by law in the interests of the welfare of humanity. In India, there are seven different kinds of IPRs – trade-marks, patents, copyrights, geographical indications etc.
Varun Paul, then explicated the different kinds of IPRs like patents, copyrights, trade-marks etc. individually and with relevant examples to bring home the meaning and the essential legal requirements of the same, the procedure required to be followed for their acquisition, the national IPR Policy etc.
In the end, the resource person patiently responded to the different queries and tried to resolve them and thanked the audience for their patient hearing.
The webinar was attended by over 700+ officials members, students, research scholars from different colleges and universities all over nation.
