Closing Ceremony of the Four-Day Dyeing and Printing Workshop

 As part of the 11th National Handloom Day celebrations, the Department of Fashion and Textile Design under the Faculty of Fine Arts successfully organized a four-day workshop on Dyeing and Printing from 1st to 4th August 2025. The objective of the workshop was to provide students with hands-on exposure to traditional and contemporary textile surface ornamentation techniques.
The closing ceremony, conducted on the final day, celebrated the successful culmination of this skill-enhancing initiative. The department was honoured to receive the blessings and best wishes of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Sharma and CEO Madam Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, whose constant support and visionary leadership have always encouraged innovation and excellence in academic endeavours.
The event was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra, Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, and Dr. Neha Singh, Head, Department of Fashion and Textile Design. Faculty members Dr. Arpana Kamboj, Dr. Surabhi Das, Ms. Shradha Yadav, Ms. Anisha Anand,  Dr. Rashika Kashyap, Ms. Abhilasha Garg, Ms. Shailja Sindhay, Ms. Monika Verma, Ms. Shabnum Shabir and Mr. Raghvendra Kumar was present and actively contributed to the smooth execution of the workshop.
The sessions were enriched by the expertise of two invited resource persons: Mr. Mohammed Sharif, Master Craftsman and Representative from the Office of the Development Commissioner – Handicrafts (Ministry of Textiles), and Dr. Pooja, Subject Matter Specialist from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Muzaffarnagar-II, Directorate of Extension, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut.

During the workshop, students learned various dyeing and printing methods, including block printing, batik, tie and dye, and stencil printing. Through practical experimentation and demonstrations, students gained a strong foundation in these surface ornamentation techniques.

Participants successfully created a range of handcrafted textile products, including scarves, bedsheets, sarees, wall hangings, dupattas, T-shirts, shirts, and kurtas. Their creative outputs reflected both technical skill and innovative design thinking.

Certificates of participation were distributed to students as a token of encouragement and recognition of their active involvement. The efforts of the faculty and the valuable contributions of the guest experts were duly acknowledged.

The Department takes pride in organizing such experiential learning activities and remains committed to promoting traditional textile practices while encouraging innovation and creativity among budding fashion and textile designers.
