Department of Physical Education Organizes Guest Lecture on “Concept of Yoga in Indian Philosophy”

The Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, successfully organized a Guest Lecture on “Concept of Yoga in Indian Philosophy” on 22 May 2026 at the Conference  Hall, Faculty of Education. The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing students’ understanding of the philosophical foundations of Yoga and its relevance in contemporary life, education, health, and human well-being.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Manju Adhikari, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Physical Education, who welcomed the distinguished guest and participants. As a mark of respect and appreciation, the Resource Person was felicitated with a ceremonial shawl (Padtka) and a sapling.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Laxmi Narayan Joshi, Professor, Department of Science, Dean, Modern Knowledge and Science, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar, who shared his profound insights on the philosophical dimensions of Yoga rooted in ancient Indian wisdom and spiritual traditions.

During the lecture, Dr. Joshi elaborated on the historical development of Yoga, its significance in Indian philosophy, and its role in achieving harmony between body, mind, and soul. He discussed the philosophical principles embedded in the Yogic tradition and explained how Yoga serves as a holistic approach towards self-discipline, self-realization, mental well-being, and spiritual growth.

The resource person further highlighted the relevance of Yogic philosophy in addressing contemporary challenges such as stress, anxiety, lifestyle disorders, and declining mental health. He emphasized that Yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a comprehensive way of life that promotes ethical values, mindfulness, emotional stability, and overall wellness.

The session was highly interactive, allowing students and faculty members to engage in meaningful discussions on the practical applications of Yoga in daily life and professional practice. The lecture provided participants with valuable insights into the integration of traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern educational and health practices.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, research scholars, and faculty members of the Faculty of Education. Prominent faculty members present during the programme included Dr. Manju Adhikari, Associate Professor and Head, Dr. Deepak Raghav, Assistant Professor, Dr. Praveen Kumar, Associate Professor, Dr. Nishant Kumar, Dr. Atul Tiwari, Assistant Professor, Dr. Ankit Singh Jadon, Assistant Professor, Mr. Shubham Rathi, Assistant Professor, and Research Scholar Mr. Sartaz Khan.

The lecture proved highly informative and intellectually enriching, enabling participants to develop a deeper understanding of the philosophical essence of Yoga and its contribution to holistic human development.

The Department of Physical Education expressed its sincere gratitude to Dr. Laxmi Narayan Joshi for delivering an enlightening and thought-provoking lecture.
