Subharti Institute of Law Organized Awareness and Pledge Program
on
“SAY NO TO DRUGS”
On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day), observed every year on 26 June, Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Meerut (DLSA) organized an Awareness Program at the Sardar Patel Auditorium under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Chandra (Former Judge, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad), Director, Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law, and Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Law. The program commenced with the welcome of the dignitaries, followed by an introductory address by Justice Rajesh Chandra, highlighting the global significance of World Drug Day and the necessity of collective efforts to eliminate drug abuse. The other speaker highlighted the impact of narcotic drugs on individuals, families and society, emphasizing that prevention through awareness and education remains the most effective strategy. Participants were sensitized about the various forms of substance abuse, factors leading to addiction, early warning signs, legal provisions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The session also discussed the importance of counselling, rehabilitation and community participation in supporting individuals affected by substance dependence. A short film on drug addiction was also shown to the participants to make them aware about the ill effects of drug abuse. A Pledge Ceremony was conducted wherein the faculty members and the non-teaching staff collectively pledged to remain drug-free, discourage substance abuse in society and actively contribute towards creating a healthy and addiction-free India. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to promoting awareness, responsible citizenship and a drug-free society.
