Guest Lecture on Role of Youth in Promoting Peace and Justice

The Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized a Guest Lecture on Sustainable Development Goal–16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions on Saturday, 22 August 2026, from 12:00 noon onwards. The lecture focused on the Role of Youth in Promoting Peace and Justice and aimed to create awareness about peace, justice, equality, and responsible citizenship.

All students and faculty members of the department attended the lecture, reflecting their active interest and commitment towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The session was led by Prof. (Dr.) Sarita Srivastav, Director, Suvernada Foundation (NGO), and Retd. Professor & Head, College of Community Science, GBPUA&T, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand.
She explained the significance of SDG-16 and highlighted the crucial role of youth in building peaceful, inclusive, and just societies. She emphasized the importance of tolerance, empathy, respect, responsible behaviour, and active participation in promoting social harmony.
The resource person also encouraged students to stand against injustice, discrimination, violence, and social inequality. The interactive lecture provided practical insights into how young people can contribute to peace and strengthen democratic and social institutions.
Students actively participated in the discussion and shared their views on promoting justice and responsible citizenship. The programme witnessed the participation of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff, reflecting the collective interest in peace, justice, and social responsibility.
The event was efficiently organized under the coordination of Dr. Nishma Singh, demonstrating the department’s commitment to integrating academic learning with global development goals. The programme concluded with a brief valedictory note by Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Gaur, Head, Department of Home Science. She appreciated the insightful lecture delivered by the resource person and highlighted the importance of youth participation in achieving the objectives of SDG-16. She encouraged students to apply the learnings in their daily lives and contribute positively to society. She also acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team, faculty members, and participants in making the programme successful.
The session concluded with the message that peace, justice, and strong institutions require active, ethical, and responsible participation from every citizen.
