Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Inaugurates International Workshop on Research Methodology & Statistical Analysis; Faculty of Education Newsletter Released; Over 167 Participants Joined
Meerut, 12th September 2026 —
The Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, in association with the Research & Development Cell, SVSU, and LNIPE, Gwalior, formally inaugurated its week-long International Workshop on Research Methodology and Statistical Analysis — RMSA Volume 4 — on Saturday, 12th September 2026, in hybrid mode. The workshop brings together an eminent panel of thirteen resource persons from six countries — India, Poland, Brazil, Ethiopia, Bhutan, and Vietnam — and is designed to strengthen research capacity among faculty members, research scholars, and students across disciplines.
The morning began with participants and delegates gathering at the venue for registration, followed by the formal inaugural ceremony, which was conducted with due academic solemnity and cultural warmth. The proceedings opened with the Saraswati Vandana, invoking the blessings of the goddess of knowledge, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries present on the dais. This was followed by a gracious gesture of honouring the guests and resource persons with saplings and traditional patkas, symbolising the University’s commitment to sustainability and cultural tradition alongside academic excellence.
Dr. Manju Adhikari, Head, Department of Physical Education and Organising Secretary of the workshop, formally welcomed all dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, and participants to the programme, outlining the objectives and significance of the week-long workshop.
Delivering a special address on the workshop’s theme, Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean, Research & Development Cell and Co-Chairperson of the workshop, spoke at length about the significance of multidisciplinary research approaches in today’s academic landscape and reaffirmed SVSU’s continuing commitment to research capacity building across its faculties.
While Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kumar Mittal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Chief Patron of the workshop, Maj Gen (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal, SM (Retd.), Pro-Chancellor, and Dr. Munish C. Reddy, Pro Vice-Chancellor, could not be present at the ceremony in person, all three were formally welcomed and their guidance and continued support for the workshop was warmly acknowledged before the gathering.
Presiding over the ceremony, Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, Chief Executive Officer, SVSU and Patron of the workshop, addressed the gathering and spoke about the University’s vision for advancing research excellence across disciplines, commending the Department of Physical Education for organising an international platform of this scale.
The ceremony also featured remarks from the workshop’s external resource persons — Prof. Dr. Ranjan Chakravarty, Department of Physical Education, University College of Medical Science, New Delhi, and Dr. Shivam Mishra, Vice President, GLG Yoga School, Vietnam — along with Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Department of Physical Education, M.J.P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, who also addressed the gathering, sharing their perspectives on the importance of rigorous research training and international academic collaboration.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the formal release of the inaugural edition of the Faculty of Education Newsletter. The newsletter was jointly released on stage by Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, Chief Executive Officer, along with the dignitaries present at the ceremony, and faculty members from the Department of Physical Education and the Department of Education. The release was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience, marking a significant milestone in the Faculty’s efforts to document and showcase its academic and research activities on a regular basis.
Speaking on the occasion, faculty members from both departments noted that the newsletter would serve as a valuable platform to highlight ongoing research initiatives, student achievements, departmental activities, and collaborative academic ventures, and expressed hope that it would be published regularly in the years to come.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with a formal group photograph of all dignitaries and resource persons present on the dais, marking the successful commencement of the workshop.
The inaugural session drew an overwhelming response from the academic community, with over 140 participants — comprising faculty members and students — joining the programme through both online and offline modes. Delegates from various universities and institutions across the country, along with SVSU’s own faculty members and students, participated in person at the campus venue, filling the seminar hall to capacity. At the same time, a substantial number of participants joined the proceedings through the live online stream, reflecting the truly hybrid and international character of the workshop.
The strong turnout across both modes of participation underscored the growing interest among the academic community in structured, hands-on training in research methodology and statistical analysis, and reaffirmed the relevance of the workshop’s multidisciplinary theme, spanning physical education, sports sciences, social sciences, humanities, management, and health.
Following the conclusion of the inaugural ceremony, the workshop moved into its first technical session of the day, titled “Basic Concepts of Research,” conducted by Dr. Shivam Mishra. The session provided participants with a foundational understanding of the research process, covering the philosophy and scope of scientific inquiry, and generated considerable interest and discussion among the attendees.
This was followed by a session on “Introduction to Post-Hoc Tests” conducted by Prof. Dr. Ranjan Chakravarty, who introduced participants to statistical techniques used for comparing multiple groups following an analysis of variance, illustrating the concepts with practical examples drawn from applied research.
After a break for lunch, the day’s proceedings resumed with an online session on “Plagiarism and Plagiarism Detecting Softwares,” conducted by Prof. Dr. Joseph Singh, Dean (Academics), LNIPE, Gwalior. The session addressed the growing importance of academic integrity in scholarly research and included a live demonstration of commonly used plagiarism-detection tools, drawing active participation from both online and offline attendees.
The first day of the workshop concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing appreciation for the depth and clarity of the sessions. The workshop will continue through the week with sessions from the remaining resource persons on the panel, covering research design, sampling techniques, descriptive and inferential statistics, report writing, and scientific publication, culminating in a valedictory session on 16th September 2026.
