Department of Optometry Celebrates World Sight Day 2026

The Department of Optometry, Subharti College of Allied and Healthcare, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, celebrated World Sight Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation on 08 October 2026.

World Sight Day is observed globally to create awareness about the importance of eye health and to emphasize the need for accessible, affordable, and quality eye-care services. Keeping this objective in view, the Department of Optometry organized a series of engaging and educational activities for the students.

A Quiz Competition was conducted among Optometry students from all batches, providing them with an opportunity to demonstrate and enhance their knowledge of optometry, eye health, and vision care. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation and healthy academic interaction among the students.

The celebration also featured a skit performed by the students, which creatively highlighted the significance of eye health and the importance of awareness in preventing avoidable visual impairment. The performance was appreciated by the faculty members and students.

The programme also included a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing togetherness and the collective commitment towards promoting eye health and vision care.

Prof. Dr. Pankaj Kishor Mishra, Principal, Subharti College of Allied and Healthcare, motivated the students through his encouraging words and emphasized the importance of professional competence, social responsibility, and commitment towards eye care. Dr. Ravindra Kumar Manik, Head, Department of Optometry, also addressed the students and encouraged them to contribute actively to eye-health awareness and develop into responsible eye-care professionals.

The programme was attended by the faculty members of the Department of Optometry, including Mrs. Hiba Khan, Assistant Professor; Mrs. Khushi Kansal, Assistant Professor; Mr. Akshaya Kumar, Assistant Professor; Mrs. Suyash Shakya, Assistant Professor; and Mrs. Menka Sharma, Assistant Professor. The faculty members actively supported and encouraged the students throughout the activities.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mrs. Hiba Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Optometry, who expressed gratitude to the university authorities, Principal, Head of the Department, faculty members, and students for their support and enthusiastic participation in the celebration.
