State-Level Nursing Seminar on World Restart a Heart Day

Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), in collaboration with Jhpiego, organized a State-Level Nursing Seminar on the occasion of World Restart a Heart Day, featuring the launch of the Community of Practice (CoP) for Excellence in Medical–Surgical Nursing, with a special focus on Critical Care Nursing. The seminar brought together approximately 200 faculty members, staff nurses, and nursing students to strengthen clinical competencies, promote evidence-based nursing practices, enhance awareness of cardiovascular emergencies, and improve patient care through professional collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. Dr. Vinay Kumar Mittal, Vice Chancellor, SVSU, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Punita Avnesh Sharma, Technical Director, Jhpiego, as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished dignitaries included Dr. Amit Sharma, HOD, Department of Cardiology, CSSH; Dr. Maheshwari, Medical Superintendent, CSSH; Ms. Annie Nirmala Program Officer, Jhpiego and Dr. Monica Rita Hendricks, Advisor, HRH, Jhpiego; and Prof. Dr. Geeta Parwanda, Principal, PDMSNC, SVSU.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, accompanied by an invocation song. The dignitaries were welcomed through the presentation of saplings, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. Prof. Dr. Geeta Parwanda delivered the welcome address, followed by the presidential address by Prof. Dr. Vinay Kumar Mittal, who emphasized the importance of quality nursing education, professional development, and excellence in patient care.

A special felicitation ceremony was held to honour Ms. Aarti Sharma, Senior Tutor, Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College, for successfully clearing the United Kingdom Objective Structured Clinical Examination (UK OSCE), an important assessment for nurses seeking registration in the United Kingdom. Her achievement was recognized as a significant milestone in professional development and a source of inspiration for nursing faculty and students.

A major highlight of the seminar was the launch of the Community of Practice for Excellence in Medical–Surgical Nursing, with a special focus on Critical Care Nursing. The initiative aims to establish a collaborative platform for nursing professionals to share clinical experiences, discuss practice-related challenges, exchange knowledge, and engage in continuous professional learning. It is envisioned as an important step towards strengthening critical care competencies, encouraging evidence-based decision-making, and fostering a culture of clinical excellence.

The academic sessions featured expert deliberations on key aspects of cardiovascular emergency management and nursing care. The resource persons included Brig. (Dr.) S. Gita Subramani, Principal, Apollo College of Nursing, Hyderabad; Prof. Promila Pandey, Principal, Nursing College, Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha, Haryana; and Ms. Bhawna Arora, Nursing Faculty, Panna Dai College of Nursing, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, New Delhi.

The sessions covered the early diagnosis of cardiovascular disorders in emergency settings, nursing interventions during cardiovascular emergencies, and self-care management for patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. The experts emphasized the importance of early recognition of warning signs, timely clinical assessment, appropriate nursing interventions, continuous patient monitoring, patient education, medication adherence, and coordinated multidisciplinary teamwork in improving clinical outcomes.

Interactive question-and-answer sessions enabled participants to engage directly with the experts, clarify clinical queries, and gain practical insights into contemporary nursing practices. A clinical role play demonstrating the management of a patient presenting with chest pain in the Emergency Department further reinforced the importance of prompt assessment, rapid decision-making, and timely intervention in cardiovascular emergencies.

To encourage research, creativity, and innovation in nursing practice, a poster competition was also organized. Participants presented their ideas and perspectives on relevant nursing topics, and the winners were recognized for their contributions.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Sriram, Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College. Participants were encouraged to complete the post-test and submit their feedback to facilitate the evaluation and continuous improvement of future academic programmes.
