A seminar on “World Aquatic Animal Day” organized in Subharti University.
Keral Verma Subharti College of Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized a seminar on ‘World Aquatic Animals Day” on 03.04.2024 in the Madan Mohan Malviya Conference Hall, SVSU. Program started with the lamp lightning in front of idol of Maa Saraswati by the Dean and Professor (Dr.) Renu Mavi, Guest Speakers Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Yadav and Mohd. Shahnawaz Khan, Professor (Dr.) Vinay Panwar, HOD Zoology and other faculty members. The guest speakers were welcomed by presenting planters to them. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Senior Coordinator Aquatic Biodiversity, WWF, India gave his lecture on “Key Aquatic Biodiversity of Upper Ganga River and Its Conservation”. He elaborately talked about the importance of aquatic animals in biodiversity and for human being. He enlightens the conservation programs run by WWF India, Hastinapur for Gharial and Turtles. WWF launched the “Gharial Re-Introduction Programme” in 2009 due to which the population of Gharials increasing continuously in Upper Ganga River. He also explained the “Community-Led Turtle Conservation Programme” due to which the local farmers skip the cultivation on the river bed and supporting the breeding of turtles, helping the WWF India to save the biodiversity of Ganga River.
Mohd. Shahnawaz Khan, Lead-Ganga River Dolphin, WWF, India conducted an interactive session on “Conservation of Dolphins”. He described various species of Dolphins found in India and globally and told many interesting facts about Dolphins. Mohd. Khan discussed different threats and conservation efforts exerted by the WWF India in the Indus River Punjab and Ganga River Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. Dheer Pal Singh, Assistant Professor, Zoology and Dr. Faheem Ahamad, Assistant Professor, Environmental Science were the coordinators of the program. Dr. Ekta Gupta extend vote of thanks. Dr. Neeru Singh along with student volunteers helped in organizing the seminar. Program was anchored by B.Sc. Second Year student Ms. Riya Gaur. Dr. Mohd. Faisal Siddiqui, Dr. Ashwani, Dr. Permod, Dr. Adesh, Dr. Gambhir, Dr. Supriya, Dr. Shaksham, Dr. Nirdesh and Dr. Manjul were present. All the members of the teaching, non-teaching staff and students contributed to make this event successful.
