English is a Second Language and Globally First
The Department of Languages conducted a Guest Lecture in English on 20th February 2023 on Monday to help make students aware of elements of spoken English beyond pronunciation, such as lexical “chunks”, intonation, pauses, and syllable/word stress. Professor Dr. Ram Sharma, Principal, SSB PG College, Ballia illuminated students on the Topic- ‘English is a Second Language and Globally First.’ The Lecture was conducted at the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Education for the students of Faculty of Library Sciences, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. During the workshop Professor Ram Sharma explained the students about the various ways by which they can improve their English Language skills. And can comprehend its importance at Global level since it is spoken by more than 350 Million people worldwide. He emphasised on the improvement of Grammar for better communication skills. He told students the importance of the saying “Practice makes a man perfect” and how they can improve by practicing every day by creating an environment that is essential for improving the Language. In this way they would be able to enhance their Language skills by getting the command over vocabulary as well as the correct pronunciation of the words. He thereafter motivated the students by explaining the significance of ‘Grammar Translation Method’ and emergence of English Language from the early 18th Century. He told students to inculcate the habit of Reading regularly for enhancing the English Skills.
The session was very interactive and ended with many students requesting for more such sessions.

Anoj Raj supervised the session by their presence and encouraged students towards the joyful learning of all the language skills.Dr.Tushti Sharma motivated the students to have a different perspective of life, encouraging them to be a learner and turning challenges into opportunities and rebuilding the confidence. Such learning programs work effectively and create an inspiring environ for the students from the rural culture and helps persuade them to make a positive change in their lives.Session culminated with a vote of thanksto the Hon’ble V.C of the university who always guides and stimulates at all platforms to makeefforts for achieving academic excellence.
