Enhancing Capacity for
Mental Health Support and Well-being

*Teachers play an important role in protecting youth from stress and depression – Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal*
 Swami Vivekanand Subharti University’s Wellness Center is organizing a two weeks workshop and training program for the university coordinators on the topic “Enhancing Capacity for Mental Health Support and Well-being”.
At the start of the workshop, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal was welcomed by Subharti Wellness Center Chairman Dr. Rahul Bansal, Co-Chairman Dr. Nagaraju Kamarthi, Secretary Dr. Swati Gupta and Dr. Sartaj Ahmad.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal said that today the youth are found to be suffering from the most stress and depression problems. The main reason for this is social, family, economic and peer group pressure etc.  Today it becomes a challenging responsibility for the university level teachers to help them overcome the symptoms of depression and stress in the students by examining or identifying them at the initial stage. During this, Dr. Thapliyal, emphasizing on spirituality, said that spiritual consciousness is of great importance in getting out of any kind of stress and depression. He further said that this workshop is important for all the wellness coordinators engaged in the innovative efforts of our university. We believe that when we ourselves stay away from stress and depression, we will be able to help others to get out of it in a more effective way.
During this, Prof. Dr. Rahul Bansal welcomed the Vice Chancellor and said that the credit for organizing this entire workshop goes to the Vice Chancellor because this workshop is being organized under his guidance. A lecture was given in the workshop by Dr. Seema Sharma, a famous psychiatrist of Subharti University.
In her address, she told the coordinators in detail about the various stages of stress and depression and the identification of their symptoms and the problems caused by them.  During this time Dr. Seema also shared her experiences with various students.
Ram Prakash Tiwari, Dr. Kiran, Dr. Mohini Mittal, Dr. Kapil Rastogi, Dr. Uzma, Dr. Jyoti Madhur, Dr. Shreya Panwar, Dr. Reeba Devi, Dr. Sarika Tyagi, Dr. Rijul Ranjan, Professor Manu M., Ms. Smriti, Dr. Neeru Singh, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Pragati Jain, Engr. Rajesh Parihar, Dr. Pallabi Mukherjee, Dr. Archita Bhatnagar, Dr. Arpana Kamboj, Dr. Akul Das, Dr. Shalu Nehra, etc. were present in the workshop and training program. Dr. Gopi Raman, Mashrul Ahmad and Pradeep Kumar supported the program.
