A transformative one-day workshop, “Ensuring Fair and High-Quality Data Using Open Data Editor,” organized by Raja Kunwar Singh Subharti Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut supported by the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN) .The event united faculty members, students, research scholars, and library professionals in a vibrant exchange of ideas, innovation, and technical skills surrounding open data practices in academia.

The program began with Saraswati Vandana and lamp lighting, symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment. In his welcome address, Dr. Sudhir Tyagi emphasized the importance of fairness, transparency, and data quality, while highlighting the collaborative spirit and learning opportunities the workshop offered.
Dr. A.P. Garg, Director Research, SVSU, added significance as Guest of Honour. In his keynote, he highlighted open data’s role in advancing research and innovation, and praised the department’s initiative and the contributions of Dr. Mohit Garg and Mr. Ranjeet Kumar Singh to digital libraries and open knowledge.
The technical sessions began with Dr. Mohit Garg’s engaging overview of the FAIR principles, highlighting their role in effective data management. Through hands-on demos using the Open Data Editor, he guided participants in curating, validating, and licensing datasets, emphasizing the value of enriched metadata. Following this, Mr. Ranjeet Kumar Singh explored open licensing and data reuse, offering practical insights into frameworks like Creative Commons. His interactive style sparked thoughtful discussions on the impact of open knowledge in academia.
Mr. Atul Pal (University of Delhi), Mr. Dheeraj Sharma, and Dr. Jasbeer Singh (IGNCA, New Delhi) shared valuable insights on “Ensuring Fair and High-Quality Data Using Open Data Editor,” highlighting its role in promoting ethical data practices, transparency, and institutional data integrity.
A lively quiz reinforced key open data concepts like FAIR principles, metadata, and licensing, followed by hands-on training led by Dr. Mohit Garg and Mr. Ranjeet Singh, where participants practiced preparing, validating, and publishing datasets using the Open Data Editor.
Ms. Bhavana Joshi’s seamless coordination ensured the workshop ran smoothly and inclusively. Dr. Sapna Sharma concluded the day with a heartfelt vote of thanks to all guests, resource persons, and participants. Faculty members, staff, and educators from various departments, along with students, scholars, and library professionals, actively participated. The workshop proved highly impactful, equipping attendees with practical skills and a stronger commitment to open data, while setting a benchmark for future academic initiatives.
