The five-day orientation programme, ‘FASS-Deeksharambh 2026’, organized by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, for newly admitted students, from August 18 to 22, 2026, witnessed the participation of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Department of Languages, Department of Library and Information Science, Department of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Buddhist Studies, Defence Academy, and the Department of Home Science.
The objective of the programme was to familiarize newly admitted students with the academic environment of the University, various departments, study resources, student facilities, and the opportunities available to them. Dr. Rafat Khanam functioned as the Chief Coordinator of the five-day orientation programme.
On the first day of the programme, Prof. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, along with the Heads of various Departments, welcomed the newly admitted students. Addressing the students, they stated that the teachers of the University would always be ready to provide them with a better environment and quality education. Dr. Rafat Khanam provided information about the administrative system and academic programmes of the University.
After the inaugural session, the students were familiarized with the faculty and departmental activities. Dr. Rafat Khanam presented an overview of the administrative structure and academic programmes of the University. Thereafter, the ‘Passing the Ball’ game activity was organized under the guidance of Dr. Kiran Rani Panwar, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts. The visit to the Department of Fine Arts was coordinated by Dr. Akanksha Singh, Assistant Professor, English, Department of Languages, and Dr. Komal, Assistant Professor, Department of Defence Studies and Strategic planning.
On the second day of the programme, Dr. Rahul Bansal addressed the students on mental health and well-being. A session introducing the faculty and University committees was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Kiran Rani Panwar. The ‘Fun Games/Cultural-Pick the Chit’ activity was conducted by Dr. Akanksha Dwivedi, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science.
Information regarding the admission system and opportunities in foreign languages was provided by Dr. Rafat Khanam and Mr. Shammi Saxena, Assistant Director, Admission Cell. In the NCC/NSS session, Dr. Praveen from Physical Education and Dr. Ram Prakash from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication provided information to the students. Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, a member of the Discipline and Anti-Ragging Committee, gave the necessary guidelines. Thereafter, the students visited the University Library under the guidance of Dr. Alpana and the coordinators.
The third day of the programme began with sessions on women empowerment, yoga, and Zumba, conducted by Dr. Manju Adhikari, Secretary of the Women Empowerment Committee and Head of the Department of Physical Education. Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam provided information about the examination system. The ‘Musical Chair’ game activity was organized under the guidance of Dr. Rafat and Dr. Akanksha Singh along with the students .
Dr. Shweta Bhardwaj provided the students with essential information on disaster management and student welfare. In the session related to scholarships, Dr. R. P. Singh familiarized the students with the opportunities available to them. The visit to the Martyrs’ Memorial was coordinated by Dr. Rafat Khanam, Associate Professor, English, and Dr. Komal.
On the fourth day, the students were informed about the opportunities for digital education available through online courses and SWAYAM. A session on MOOC courses and SWAYAM was conducted by Dr. Shravan Garg, Professor and Head, Computer Science, SITE. The ‘Talent Hunt’ game activity was organized under the guidance of Dr. Akanksha Dwivedi and Dr. Akanksha Singh along with volunteers.
Dr. Mukesh Ruhela, Professor and Head of the Department of Environment, provided information about the best practices of the University. Feedback regarding the programme was collected from the students by Dr. Kiran Rani Panwar. Mrs. Keerti Nair delivered an inspiring session on personality development. Dr. Rafat Khanam presented an overview of the entire orientation programme and delivered the vote of thanks. The students were taken on a visit to Subharti Media under the guidance of Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam, Associate Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
On the fifth and final day, departmental programmes were organized for the students in their respective departments from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a special lecture in which senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Parvatiya News, Pradeep Kumar Vedwal, and senior journalist and anchor of the Zee Group, Divyansh Sharma, interacted with the students and discussed in detail the practical skills, challenges, and working style required for success in the field of journalism. The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of the Department.
Through the departmental activities, the students got an opportunity to become familiar with the academic environment, teachers, and working procedures of their respective departments. During the programme, the newly admitted students were also taken on visits to the University Library, Martyrs’ Memorial, INA Park, Art Gallery, Department of Fine Arts, Bodhi Upvan, and Subharti Media.
In the successful organization of the programme, Dr. Kiran Rani Panwar, Dr. Komal, Dr. Akanksha Singh, Dr. Shridha Jha, and Dr. Akanksha Dwivedi played important roles along with Co-Coordinator Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam. The five-day ‘Deeksharambh 2026’ played an important role in familiarizing the newly admitted students with the University, Faculty, departmental system, academic resources, student facilities, and co-curricular activities. The queries and questions of the students were also addressed during the programme. Faculty members from all the departments were present during the programme.
