First Physiotherapy Standard Treatment plan for Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

A student from Subharti University has developed the first physiotherapy standard treatment plan for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).

It has become a tradition for Subharti University to be in the limelight for various achievements, and continuing this tradition, a brilliant student from the Physiotherapy Department, Shah Faisal, has achieved a remarkable feat. While still an undergraduate, he has created a standard physiotherapy treatment plan for a serious health condition like SAH, which is a unique and significant accomplishment.

What makes this achievement even more special is that Shah Faisal has also obtained a copyright for this treatment plan from the government, which is a testament to his hard work and dedication.

During a conversation, the student shared that the most important contribution to the success of this research came from Dr. Jasmine Anandabai, the Principal and Dean of Jyotirao Phule Subharti College of Physiotherapy, who provided precise guidance and fulfilled all the necessary requirements while continuously encouraging him.

What is SAH ?

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a bleeding in the space surrounding the brain, a type of stroke that disrupts brain function and can be life-threatening.

Symptoms of SAH include sudden onset of headache, vomiting, unconsciousness, and changes in mental state. If someone shows symptoms of SAH, immediate medical attention should be sought.

How to identify the symptoms of SAH?

  1. Sudden onset of headache with no apparent cause.
  2. Vomiting and unconsciousness.
  3. Changes in mental state, such as confusion, memory loss, and behavioral changes.
  4. Stiffness in the neck and back pain.
  5. Eye bleeding and vision changes.

If someone exhibits symptoms of SAH, they should seek medical attention immediately. Timely treatment is crucial, as SAH can be life-threatening.

Treatment/Procedure:

  1. Body positioning: Positioning the body in a specific way helps to  reduce pressure in patients undergoing treatment for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).
  2. Bed cycle ergometer (device): This device assists in improving coordination between the brain and muscles and helps to maintain the pressure in brain
  3. Manual hyperinflation: This technique manually inflates the lungs to increase oxygen levels in the brain. It also involves using a tube to remove fluids from the airway.
  4. Light and volume control in the ICU: Proper control of light and noise levels in the ICU helps maintain a regular sleep cycle, which is important for recovery.
