“Bibliometrics, Scientometrics and Research Impact Analysis”
The Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organised a guest lecture on the theme “Bibliometrics, Scientometrics and Research Impact Analysis” on July 20th, 2026. Dr. M. P. Singh, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, delivered the lecture as the guest speaker for the session.The lecture was designed with the primary objective of familiarising students, research scholars, and faculty members with the contemporary dimensions of research evaluation and the latest conceptual frameworks used for measuring research impact.
Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, welcomed the guest speaker and remarked that in the present research environment, publishing research alone is not sufficient its impact on societal education and knowledge development is equally important. He noted that subjects such as bibliometrics and scientometrics equip research scholars with quality research practices, sound research strategy, and pathways to engage with the global research community, thereby playing a vital role in strengthening the research competence of students and scholars.
In his address, Dr. M.P. Singh provided a detailed overview of modern research evaluation techniques, including bibliometrics, scientometrics, webometrics, and altmetrics. He observed that the quality and impact of research work today are assessed not merely on the basis of the number of publications, but also through citation patterns, research impact, collaborative research, and global visibility. He further acquainted the participants with key research evaluation indicators and databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, ORCID, h-index, i10-index, CiteScore, SNIP, and SJR. The lecture also included an extensive discussion on practical strategies for quality research publication, research ethics, selection of appropriate journals, and enhancing the international visibility of research.
Dr. Sapna Sharma proposed the formal vote of thanks to Dr. M. P. Singh at the conclusion of the program.
The lecture was attended by faculty members of the Department, including Dr. Javed Khan, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Dr. Alpana, Mrs. Shalini Tyagi, and Mrs. Bhavana Joshi, along with students and research scholars. Participants displayed keen interest in the information shared during the session and described the lecture as highly informative, research-oriented, and contemporary in relevance. The program concluded on a highly successful note, with the session significantly enhancing participants’ understanding of research evaluation tools and impact measurement practices.
