 Guest Lecture on Artificial Intelligence in Journalism

A guest lecture on the topic “Artificial Intelligence in Journalism” was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication on 5th May, 2025 to enrich the academic understanding of students about emerging trends in media and technology.

The distinguished speaker for the session was Dr. Deepika Verma, Assistant Professor, Tilak School of Journalism and Mass Communication, CCS University, Meerut. Dr. Verma delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of journalism.

She explained the fundamentals of AI, its rapid integration into media practices, and elaborated on both its positive and negative impacts. While discussing the positive side, she emphasized how AI can help in automating news production, fact-checking, and content personalization. On the flip side, she highlighted concerns related to job displacementfake news, and ethical challenges posed by AI technologies.

To make the session relatable and interesting, Dr. Verma also cited the example of Ghibli, showcasing how AI tools are being innovatively used in the media industry.

Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Thaledi, Head of the Department, addressed the students and shared his thoughts on the relevance of Artificial Intelligence in reshaping journalism and media practices.

The session was highly interactive, as students actively participated by asking thought-provoking questions, which led to a fruitful discussion between the speaker and the students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and appreciation for the valuable insights shared by Dr. Deepika Verma.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Preeti Singh, Assistant Prof. Faculty Members Mr. Ram Prakash Tiwari, Mr. Shikeb Majeed and all the students participated in the guest lecture.
