The Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a Guest Lecture on “Challenges and Innovative Solutions in Hill Road Construction” on 12th November 2025 at MMM,Auditorium, FET.
The Chief Guest and Resource Person for the event was Er. Padam Kumar Gautam, Retd. Chief Engineer & Director General, Border Roads Organization (BRO), who has served the nation for more than 35 years through the UPSC Engineering Services.
During his address, Er. Gautam shared valuable insights into the engineering challenges and innovative solutions involved in constructing roads in hilly terrains. He discussed the importance of slope stabilization, drainage planning, use of geo-synthetics, and eco-friendly construction techniques, while highlighting several real-life case studies from his professional experience with BRO, NHIDCL, and NHAI.
A total of 83 students from the Department of Civil Engineering attended the lecture and actively participated in the interactive session. The event proved to be informative, inspiring, and highly engaging, providing students with practical exposure to modern engineering practices in hill road construction.
