“Government Media and Public Relations” 

Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Meerut’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a guest lecture on the topic “Government Media and Public Relations”. Former Deputy Director of Department of Information and Public Relations, Uttar Pradesh Surendra Kumar Sharma was the invited keynote speaker.

While addressing the students on the topic Government Media and Public Relations, former Information Department officer Surendra Kumar Sharma said that the purpose of government media publicity is to establish trust in the public and to act as a bridge between the government and the public. Mr. Sharma further said that government media plays an important role in publicity. He said that it provides information to the general public about the policies, programs and achievements of the government. This increases the trust of the public towards the government and increases dialogue and understanding between the government and the public.

Head of Journalism and Mass Communication Department Prof. Subhash Chandra Thaledi said that there are many employment opportunities available for the students of journalism and mass communication in the government media of the Central and State Government. Due to which journalism scholars get full-time employment. He also advised the students to keep an eye on the opportunities in the employment related notifications of the Union Public Service Commission and the State Public Service Commissions. Dr. Thaledi further said that government media publicity helps in increasing awareness about government policies and programs, so that the public can know about their rights and benefits. He said that the information system of the Central and State Government also collects the feedback and suggestions of the public through publicity, due to which policies and programs are improved. Government media plays an important role in publicity by ensuring transparency and accountability, so that the public can get accurate and reliable information.

During this, when Nitesh Kumar, a second year student of BAJMC, wanted to know about the role of ethics in government media, Surendra Sharma told that ethics plays an important role in government media because it helps in maintaining the credibility of the government. There is accuracy and transparency in the information of government media. While replying to a question of another BAJMC student Manisha about employment opportunities in the field of government media and public relations, Sharma said that a degree/diploma in journalism is necessary to make a career in this field. Apart from this, good writing and communication skills, understanding of various media and public relations and information about government policies are necessary.

On this occasion, guest speaker Surendra Sharma was honored with a memento by the Head of the Department Prof. Subhash Chandra Thaledi and Dr. Preeti Singh. The program was conducted and coordinated by Assistant Professor Ram Prakash Tiwari of the department. During this, teachers of the department Shikeb Majeed, Deepak Kumar as well as students of the department were present.
