A Guest Lecture was organized in the Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut entitled “ Observation of Partition Horror Remembrance Day” on 14th August 2023 Time: 11 :00 A.M., Venue :- LT-01. It was done to execute the Central Government announcement to celebrate August 14th as ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’, just a day before Independence Day.
The objective of the guest Lecture was to make people aware about the partition realities and consequences the nation has been facing.
The Guest speaker Dr. Bhupender Pratap Singh, Assistant Professor Department of Political Science, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut enlightened the gathering with his valuable knowledge and insight. He highlighted the fact that the partition of India has been done according to the Indian Independence Act 1947, a law made on the basis of the Mountbatten plan. It was said in this act that on August 15, 1947, two countries named India and Pakistan would be formed and the British government would hand over the power to them.
With this, Pakistan was established on 14 August and the Indian Union on 15 August.
He further said that the pain of the partition of the country can never be forgotten.
Due to hatred and violence, lakhs of our sisters and brothers had to be displaced and even lost their lives.
On this occasion Dr. Manoj kumar tripathi, Head of the Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities quoted that we, Indians, should remember discrimination, enmity and ill-will. Not only will it inspire the citizen to eliminate the poison of drugs, but it will also strengthen unity, social harmony and human sensibilities.
Dr. Harish kumar, the program coordinator, put his opinion saying that crores of people were affected by the partition of India. About one million people were killed in the violence during partition and about 1.45 crore refugees left their homes and took refuge in the majority community country. Both the countries are still facing the brunt of this partition on the basis of religion. Students and faculty members enjoyed the session and came to know about the untold stories of freedom fighters.
The program ended with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Rafat Khanam. Dr. Neha moderated the stage. During the program Dr. sartaj Ahmed, Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Ankit Tiwari, Dr. Niyati Garg were present.
