Department of Languages, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Meerut and Gender Sensitization Committee organized a guest lecture related to gender sensitization entitled ‘Social Attitude towards Gender-Based Violence and LGBTQ’. Dr. Shruti Nagar, Assistant Professor, Noida International University was the chief guest speaker of the program. This program started with the worship of Maa Saraswati, before the goddess of knowledge by lighting of lamps as per Indian culture and tradition. The chief guest speaker of the program, Dr. Shruti Nagar expressed her views related to gender sensitization, in which she explained how gender abnormalities, gender-based violence is a violence targeted at a person or group on the basis of their gender which cannot be seen separately from the context of the individual, family, communities or states. Gender Based Violence is a part of the continuum of violence and affects the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of the people. She made the students aware to reduce all this violence and discrimination. As a symbol of respect and gratitude, Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Sarika and Dr. Rafat Khanam presented a plant and a shawl to Dr. Shruti Nagar, the chief guest as a token of respect. Dr. Shruti Nagar gave a practical lecture on gender sensitivity. She said that the aim of gender sensitivity is to create an equal and fair society where individuals are not discriminated against on the basis of their gender. She further said that gender sensitivity is not only very important for our society but is also essential for developing a sense of equality and respect in every individual’s personal and professional life.

Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages, also expressed her views on gender sensitivity and LGBTQ. It is a process of making people aware about the need for gender equality or elimination of gender discrimination. Dr. Sarika, Chairperson of Gender Sensitization Committee, also made the students aware about gender sensitivity.

At the end of the program, Dr. Rafat Khanam, In-charge of English as a Foreign Language and Nodal Officer of Gender Sensitization Committee of the Language Department, made the students aware of the ideas related to gender sensitivity. she said that every person, irrespective of his/her gender, is entitled to equal rights, respect and opportunities and gender roles and stereotypes should be ignored. Breaking the rules as women should not be confined to the house only. Students were made aware of all this and a formal thank you was given.

The program was successfully conducted by Shikha Sharma, second year student of MA Hindi and Vidhi Chauhan, first year student of B.A. Honors English. It was organized effectively by Department of the Languages and Gender Sensitization Committee. Dean FASS, Professor (Dr.) Sudhir Tyagi, Head of Languages Department Dr. Seema Sharma, Gender Sensitization Incharge Dr. Sarika, Nodal Officer of Gender Sensitization Committee of Language Department Dr. Rafat Khanam, and nodal officer of various departments such as Dr. Kaynat, Dr. Neeru, Dr. Ritu Sharma, Dr. Archana, Dr. Divya, and Faculty from language department Dr. Rajeshwar Pal Chauhan, Dr. Ashish Deepankar, Dr. Anuj Bawara, Dr. Ankit, Ms. Swati and Gender Champions of all the departments of the University were present in the program.
