Hands-on Training on Patent Search and Drafting
The Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages (Department of Languages), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “Hands-on Training on Patent Search and Drafting” on 7th April 2025 at 12:00 PM. The session was conducted in the department’s new academic space, LT-8, located on the 2nd floor of the Law College building.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. NishaRana, Incharge, IPR Section, Research & Development Cell, SVSU. Dr. Rana shared her valuable expertise on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), focusing particularly on the processes of patent search and drafting. Her session effectively combined theoretical concepts with practical demonstrations, making it both interactive and highly informative for all attendees.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty members. The lecture not only enhanced participants’ understanding of IPR procedures but also encouraged researchers to explore the patentability of their academic and innovative work.

The primary objective of this lecture was to familiarize students, faculty, and research scholars with the fundamentals and methodology of patent searching, as well as the essential components and structure of patent drafting. Dr. NishaRana elaborated on various databases used for patent searches, the importance of keywords, classifications, and claim construction in drafting. She also discussed common pitfalls to avoid in the patenting process and emphasized the importance of IPR awareness in academic and research domains.
