International Midwifery Day was celebrated on 5th & 6th May 2026 on the theme “One Million More Midwives” in collaboration with Society of Midwives India (SOMI), Uttar Pradesh Chapter. The programme was conducted with great enthusiasm and active participation of ANM students, staff nurses, health workers, and faculty members.
The event was organized at Lecture Theatre–4 (LT-4) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Subharti Hospital (CSSH) and Rohta Community Health Centre.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Geeta Parwanda Principal & Dean, Ms. Anupama National Midwifery Educator, NMTI Meerut and Dr. Ambli V, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The inaugural session was followed by a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Geeta Parwanda, Principal & Dean, Panna Dhai Maa Subharti Nursing College, emphasizing the crucial role of midwives in ensuring safe motherhood and improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
A series of academic and interactive activities were conducted as part of the celebration:
- Role Play: Students performed role plays depicting real-life maternal care scenarios, highlighting the importance of skilled and compassionate midwifery care.
- Guest Lecture: An informative lecture focused on the role of midwives in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and strengthening maternal health services.
- Skill Activity: Practical sessions were conducted to enhance clinical competencies in essential midwifery practices among students.
- Quiz Session: A quiz competition was organized to assess and improve knowledge related to midwifery care, encouraging active participation.
The programme was highly engaging and informative, providing a valuable platform for participants to strengthen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The celebration concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from all attendees.
