National Mathematics Day-2023
In reference to the letter Ref. No. U-07/SVSU/2023/1270 Dated: 09.12.2023, Keral Verma Subharti College of Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut celebrated the National Mathematics Day on 22nd December 2023 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. On this day, four various activities were organized i.e. Lectures, Mathematics Exhibition, Math-Art contest and Mathematics Awareness. The aim of these activities was to create a vibrant and intellectually stimulating environment, promote a deeper appreciation for mathematics among students and faculty and to promote the significance of mathematics in education and research. The events were commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana, in the presence of Dean Faculty of Science Prof. (Dr.) Renu Mavi, and various Head of Departments. Dr. Ekta Gupta welcome all the dignitaries, faculty members and participants and introduced about the significance of National Mathematics Day and briefed about the various activities.
Lectures include contemporary mathematical topics, fostering intellectual engagement, while Mathematics Exhibition was to showcasing the beauty and applications of mathematics through visual displays, interactive demonstrations, and informative posters. Math-Art Contest combine the mathematical and artistic skills, where participants can express mathematical concepts through creative artwork, whereas Mathematics Awareness was to raise awareness about the importance of mathematics in everyday life, emphasizing its role in scientific advancements and technological innovations. The judges of the activity were Prof. Arvind Sharma, Dr. (Mohd.) Israil, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Preeti Singh. Prof. Mukesh Ruhella and Dr. Nidhi Khandelwal were also present during the assessment of activities.
A total of 65 number of registrations were done from various colleges and departments in which 14 registration for Lecture, 6 registrations for Math-Art Contest, 23 registrations for Mathematics Awareness while 29 registrations were for Mathematics Exhibition. The result of the activities was as followed;
Lecture: 1st place – Deepika Tomer (B.Sc. Maths)
Mathematics Exhibition: 1st place- Anchal (Chemistry); 2nd place- Himanshi Gowasmi (B.Sc. CS); 3rd place- Abhinav (B.Sc. CS)
Math-Art Contest: 1st place- Deepika Tomer, Sakshi and Anshika from Maths; 2nd place: Meghna and Khushi from Maths; 3rd place: Janvi Chaudhary and Abhay Singh from Maths
Mathematics Awareness: 1st place- Vishwas Chaudhary (B.Sc. Maths); 2nd place- Ekansh (B.Sc. Biotech); 3rd place- Shruti (B.Sc. Biotech)
The organizing secretary of this program were Dr. Aftab Alam, Head, Department of Mathematics, Dr. Vikas Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Dr. Devendra Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Mr. Himanshu, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Application. The profound cooperation from Prof. Anju Rani, Dr. Amod Kumar, Dr. Rajeev, Dr. Ankit Kumar Goyal, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Mr. Yogendra Arun and student volunteers was gratefully acknowledged. The program marked a significant step towards fostering awareness and significance of mathematics in education and research.
