One-Day Media Lab Workshop Enhances Practical Skills of Journalism Students
The Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a one-day workshop on “Effectively Use of Media Production Lab” on February 17, 2025, to strengthen students’ practical skills in media production and studio operations.
Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam, Associate Professor at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, delivered the expert session and provided hands-on training on professional use of the media production laboratory. He demonstrated the operation of studio cameras, lighting arrangements, audio recording systems, teleprompter, and video editing facilities. He emphasized that systematic planning, technical accuracy, and teamwork are essential for producing quality media content.
Dr. Gautam guided students through practical exercises in camera framing, shot composition, sound synchronization, and studio coordination. He explained how students can effectively use laboratory resources for news production, anchoring practice, video packages, and digital storytelling projects. He encouraged participants to practice regularly in the lab to enhance technical competence and confidence.
The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of the Department, who highlighted the importance of practical exposure in journalism and mass communication education. He stated that media laboratories provide experiential learning opportunities that bridge classroom theory with professional production standards.
Dr. Ashutosh Verma coordinated the workshop and ensured smooth execution of all sessions and demonstrations. Dr. Preeti Singh and Ms. Shelly Sharma graced the occasion and encouraged students to actively utilize institutional media infrastructure for skill development.
Students participated enthusiastically in the interactive training sessions and clarified doubts related to studio handling, equipment safety, and production workflow. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the speaker and organizers for conducting a highly practical and skill-oriented programme that enhanced students’ media production capabilities.
