Under the Mission Shakti Phase–5 initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh and University Grants Commission , Ministry of Education , Government of India , the Women Empowerment Committee (WEC) of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized an “Oral Hygiene and Oral Health Awareness Programme” for non-teaching staff and women employees. The primary objective of the programme was to educate participants about oral health, daily oral hygiene practices, prevention of common dental diseases, and the specific oral health needs of women.

The programme began with an address by Dr. Anshul Trivedi, Chairperson, WEC, who highlighted the importance of oral health. She explained that dental diseases are not limited to the teeth alone but can affect overall systemic health, contributing to conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and pregnancy-related complications. She emphasized that a clean and healthy mouth is directly linked to a healthy life.

This was followed by a detailed demonstration by a team of dental professionals on correct oral hygiene practices, including toothbrushing techniques (Modified Bass Method), flossing, proper use of mouthwash, tongue cleaning, and the impact of dietary habits on oral health. A live demonstration of correct brushing technique was conducted, during which participants were informed that the use of hard toothbrushes, incorrect brushing direction, and excessive pressure can cause damage to the gums.

A special session was conducted for women, focusing on oral health concerns such as gum inflammation during pregnancy (Pregnancy Gingivitis), oral problems caused by hormonal changes, and sensitivity variations during menstruation. Participants were advised that regular dental check-ups and a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D help in maintaining good oral health.

An interactive question-and-answer session was held, during which participants raised queries related to toothache, bad breath, frequency of changing toothbrushes, and dental care for children. The experts addressed all questions with simple, practical, and informative explanations.

The participants highly appreciated the programme and acknowledged that oral health is often neglected despite its importance. They expressed that awareness and regular oral care can help prevent many dental problems. Several participants also requested similar programmes in the future.

The programme was highly successful and marked an important step toward promoting a healthy, aware, and hygienic environment within the university.
