Pledge Programme for Sustainable Development Goals
Raja Kunwar Singh Subharti Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut conducted a pledge-taking ceremony on 25th October, 2025. The programme aimed to strengthen the University’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by engaging students, faculty, and staff in a collective pledge-taking initiative. Under SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the programme sought to promote collaborative awareness and action on all seventeen UNSDGs. Additionally, it reinforced the University’s dedication to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by securing commitments to achieve 100% renewable energy usage within the campus and beyond, thereby embedding sustainability values into institutional culture and practices.
The ceremony was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, who administered both pledges to assembled participants. The gathering brought together students, faculty members, and administrative staff in a unified ceremony that fostered institutional solidarity. He emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability principles into educational philosophy and campus operations. Two pledges were administered, first focused on commitment to meaningful education around the UNSDGs, ensuring sustainability remains central to the University’s academic mission, the second addressed the goal of achieving 100% renewable energy utilization within campus infrastructure and community partnerships. All participants vocally affirmed both pledges, demonstrating their dedication to these institutional goals.
The pledge-taking ceremony resulted in overwhelming participation and enthusiastic engagement of students, faculty, and staff of the department. The event raised awareness about the seventeen UNSDGs and the role educational institutions play in achieving sustainability targets. The programme established a foundation for integrating UNSDG principles into academic programmes, research priorities, and operational decisions while creating accountability structures for measurable progress.
