Sanskrit Diwas 2026 – Sanskritam Sarvajnananam Moolam
The Department of Languages, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, celebrated Sanskrit Diwas 2026 on 27 August 2026 under the theme “Sanskritam Sarvajnananam Moolam”–“Sanskrit is the Foundation of All Knowledge.” The programme celebrated Sanskrit as an important part of India’s literary, intellectual, cultural and ethical heritage and highlighted its relevance in contemporary education and society. The event was compered by student Riya Kumari, while the presidential address was delivered by Prof. Acharya Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Languages.
Objectives
The programme aimed to:
- Create awareness, interest and respect for Sanskrit among students.
- Introduce younger generations to India’s classical knowledge traditions, including the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Mahabharata and Ramayana.
- Highlight the contemporary relevance of Sanskrit literature, philosophy and ethical values.
- Encourage the preservation, promotion and dissemination of Sanskrit.
- Strengthen cultural identity, inclusiveness and community participation.
- Contribute to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities – Cultural Heritage).
Highlights
Distinguished faculty members shared valuable perspectives on Sanskrit’s enduring significance. Dr. Yeshpal highlighted its contribution to literature, education and social values, emphasizing how Sanskrit poetry, drama and prose provide insights into human emotions and moral questions. Prof. Seema Sharma described Sanskrit as an integral part of India’s cultural and intellectual heritage and encouraged students to develop a deeper interest in the language and its knowledge traditions. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Nishi Raghav, acknowledging the contribution of faculty, students and support staff.
