An awareness program under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 was organized by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. The program aimed to strengthen a safe, respectful, and gender-sensitive environment within the university campus.
The program began with a welcome address followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The dignitaries were felicitated with the presentation of saplings, symbolizing environmental consciousness and a positive initiative.
The views of the Honorable Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the University, Dr. Shalya Raj, were shared during the program. In her message, she reiterated the University’s zero-tolerance policy and affirmed that the institution remains fully committed to ensuring the dignity, safety, and respect of every student and employee.
The message of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Pramod Kumar Sharma, emphasized that the reputation of any academic institution is closely linked to a safe, disciplined, and positive environment. He highlighted the need for awareness, ethical responsibility, and an effective grievance redressal mechanism at the workplace.
During the technical session, Ms. Madhuri provided a detailed overview of the key provisions of the POSH Act, 2013, the structure of the University’s Internal Complaints Committee, and the complaint redressal process. She sensitized the participants about their rights and responsibilities under the Act.
Guest speaker Mrs. Anita Rana, in her motivational address, emphasized the importance of respectful conduct, sensitivity, and mutual trust toward women at the workplace. She stated that a safe environment is created not only through rules but also through collective thinking and positive behavior. The guest speaker highlighted the significance of gender equality, self-respect, and institutional support in her address.
Legal expert Professor (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi elaborated on the legal aspects of the Act, including punitive provisions and institutional responsibilities. Through practical examples, she provided a clear understanding of legal procedures.
At the conclusion of the program, all participants took the POSH pledge, collectively committing to uphold dignity, equality, and respect at the workplace. The program concluded with a vote of thanks.
Faculty members from various departments, university officials, and a large number of students actively participated in the program. The event proved to be a significant step toward fostering a safe and positive campus environment.
