Guest Lecture Report: Skill Development for Future Ready Information Professionals
On August 30, 2025, Raja Kunwar Singh Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University organized a guest lecture on “Skill Development for Future Ready Information Professionals.” Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, welcomed the distinguished guest speaker Professor Dr. S.B. Kulshrestha from M.M.H. College, Ghaziabad, emphasizing the critical importance of adapting to new technologies in today’s information landscape.
Dr. Kulshrestha delivered an enlightening presentation on the transformative nature of Library and Information Science, highlighting how the field has evolved beyond traditional boundaries. He discussed the expanded scope of modern information science, which now encompasses digital data management, artificial intelligence applications, cloud storage solutions, open access resources, and comprehensive research support services.
The guest speaker emphasized essential competencies for future information professionals, including information retrieval, analysis, secure storage, and timely delivery to users. He strongly encouraged students to maintain proficiency in traditional skills while adopting innovative, user-centric services, describing this balanced approach as key to becoming true “future information professionals.”
The session concluded with Dr. Sapna Sharma expressing gratitude on behalf of the department. The event saw excellent participation from all faculty members and students, who demonstrated exceptional engagement and interest in understanding modern information science career opportunities. This lecture provided valuable practical knowledge and professional guidance for students preparing for careers in library and information science.
